Anyone build bamboo fly rods

Postby mbende on March 31st, 2017, 11:12 am

I was just curious if there are any bamboo fly rod builders here. Not so much pros but more hobbyists. I've been bouncing the idea around to give it a go and just wanted to see if there was a local source of information.

Catskill Fly Fishing Museum offers a one-week course in bamboo rod making.

Pricey, but it jump starts the learning curve.

I've been building plastic rods for many years and wanted to give bamboo a try. I bought blanks made by some good builders, and ended up with some really nice rods after I was done. I suck at woodworking, and didn't want to sink the cash into something that I knew would go south. You might want to go that route, too.

I've considered that, but enjoy wood working and wanted to build one from the get go. I also wanted to see if anyone wanted to go in on a bundle of Tonkin culms.
