I have started tying colorful streamers and framing them in shadow boxes - its a nice diversion and looks great on the wall and can make a nice gift. I am currently tying 3 streamers to match the colors of the 3 colleges in my household - Boston College, Rutgers, and Wake Forest. Streamer fishing is the weakest part of my fly-fishing skills, but I do like the way they look.

IMHO, the best way to get a smooth tinsel body is to first make sure the underbody is smooth. Then, start at the head and wind back, and then wind back to the head. The first layer may be rough, but the second one usually smooths right out.
Those wings look really, really good for someone claiming not to have tied many.
