NJTU One Fly/Angler of the Year on Saturday

Postby Rusty Spinner on November 9th, 2017, 10:49 am

For anyone interested, the annual One Fly Contest held by NJ State Council of Trout Unlimited will be held on Saturday at the Raritan Inn on the SBR. All are welcome to come out and watch the contest between our 10 chapters and the local watershed association (Raritan Headwaters Association, a great group). I think that there is one other contestant, and that is often Casting for Recovery, the women's breast cancer recovery organization that also does great work. Starting time is 8 am and it runs into the afternoon with the 3 highest scores competing for the win after lunch. It's going to be cold, so bundle up! That evening will be the state council banquet beginning at 5:30, and tickets might still be available on the Shannon's website (in their Private Waters page somewhere as I recall). Hope to see some of you out there. Coming out to watch is free. Anglers are assigned beats they draw from a hat, with each contestant fishing 2 of the 3 time slots and each one having a bye round. Scores are based on length of fish and native brook trout get extra points. This is always a great event, and the number of folks cheering on our contestants from the banks is fun.

Anita Coulter won for Casting For Recovery. She used an egg pattern all day. Hard to beat an egg pattern in November, especially when you know how to fish them.

Cold slow water is perfect for eggs!
