Re: Dry fly floatant

Hi, One of the best floatants you can buy is at a drug store. It is Abolene that your mom put on your butt back in the 40’s or 50’s. Go to Walgreens or CVS and get the unscented. You can get a 14 ounce can for about 5 bucks and it will last you a life time. I started using it back in the 80’s. Just ...

Re: Shad Fishing

Hi, If I remember right back many years ago when I lived just outside of Milford,Pa. I tied up some shad flies. Tail was a hot pink, hackle also hot pink (wet style) and body was silver tinsel on a size 8 or size 6 nymph hook. Another was bright yellow hackle and tail with a silver body on a 4,6,or ...

Re: Dry fly fishing

Hello, The worst thing is on your back cast you realize that darn tree moved to catch your fly. The trout are bouncing all over the place and your fly is in a tree 10 feet up. What to do, pull until the tippet breaks and then by the time you get your line back minus a good portion of your tippet the...

Hey don’t worry the beavers will have it fixed in a week. On my brothers farm in NY he has been fighting a beaver for a year or more. So far beaver is ahead four to one. He took the dam apart four times and they had it fix in under a week..The last time he took it apart it took them three weeks to f...

Re: Trees, trees and moe trees....

Hi, How come when I’m fly fishing there are no trees around but as soon as the trout start to rise all the trees come down along the stream side and all you do is catch trees. Does anyone else have this problem? Everyone have a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year. Bill the mailman. PS. I have not caught...

Re: Long Beach Island With The Flyrod?

Hello, Go to the lighthouse and park in the parking lot. You want to fish to the right of the inlet and jetty. The water sweeps around the jetty and to the right down towards the beach. You will see what I’m talking about when you get there and start fishing. I caught my biggest bluefish there a few...

Re: Late spring - summer fly fishing

Hi, if you go to usgs conditions it will give you a whole list of streams and rivers. It is for the flow and not the temperatures. It shows the Delaware and most of New Jersey flows. It is up dated about every hour. Just click on the number to the left and that stream conditions (flow) will come up....

Re: 3 days on the Upper Delaware Rivers

Hello, Up on the Beaverkill for a few days and had a ball today. Started fishing around three pm and by 4:30 had caught 5 and all were big except for a Brooke that probably was about 6 inch’s long. I fished by the bridge above painters bend. All fish were released and never out of the water. After s...

South Branch

Hello, Fished SBR today(Wed) and caught a Rainbow trout tha t if you stretched it a lot it may make 6 inch’s. Is the state stocking smaller Rainbows or is this a stream bred fish. Do not ask to see a picture as I do not have a cell phone and I do not have a camera. It was one of the prettiest Rainbo...

Hello, When did Hackettstown hatchery start stocking trout? I thought they made the hatchery into a warm water fishery. They raise Pike, Bass and other warm water fish. They haven’t raised trout there in years although they keep some really large trout in the one pond by the building where we pick u...

South Branch

Hello, Fished the South Branch to day and had a ball. No flies were hatching and every thing I caught was under water. Would you believe there was no one else fishing where I was. Half hour before I left a very nice gentleman came and started fishing way below where I was . When I was going to quit ...

Re: Penn's Creek questions and tips.

Hello, It’s funny but Eastern Fly Fishing magazine has a great article about Penns Creek. I just got it in the mail today. I like this magazine because it’s about eastern fishing and I think it’s better then the Fly Fisherman’s magazine. The article gives the fly hatches and access points.along the ...

Re: Hot Spring 2018 Flies

Hi, I think with this cold weather and rain the regular fly hatches will probably be off by at least a week. I think the Hendrickson and Gordon’s will be hatching the end of April or the first week in May. I fished the Ramapo this pass Sat. And saw a few Caddis and some black stoneflies flying aroun...

Re: Dangerous hip waders

Hello, I put on felt soles on my hip boots. I bought the felts in a fly shop and put them on with sportsman goop. What I did was grind the rubber on the boots down as smooth as I could get them. I then put goop on the soles and on the boot and the pressed them together and taped them tight over nigh...
