My daughter’s German Shepard is orange in color so I cut some tail hair and others hair from different parts of his body. The dogs name is Winsto so the fly is now called Winston. Re: Musky

Hi, I fish the big Willo. I park on old 17 and walk across the quickway to the river. Very good water and not a lot of pressure on this area. Just have to watch out for the cars on the quickway. I have been fishing this area for years and has a lot of trout in it. The other area is the flats which i...

Re: Musky

Hello All, Wed.Day Musky today South Branch. Caddis flies were hatching and only saw three risers. Every thing I caught today was under the water. It was a bad day for me not because of catching fish but lost four flies in the rocks. So had to sit down and put new flies on. Let m tell you the fish w...

Musky

Hi All, Had a good day fishing in Jersey to day. Fished the Musky and had a very good time. Caught 11 and missed about that many. Half of the ones I missed were on for a second or two but then got off and the others just hit and I was just too late to hook them. Caddis flies were about and did not s...

Flies

Hi Everybody, Just a question. Did anyone see any May flies hatching on Saturday or Easter Sunday? How about some caddis flies hatching? I will be going out next week as I have to much to do around the house. After winter everyone has a to do list from your spouse I am sure. As far as May flies like...

Re: Caddis "dry flly"

I always use a caddis fly by it self. I do not use elk hair for the wing. What I use is the white tail buck hair from the the cheeks of its head. I have been using the cheek hair for at least 50 years now. For a stacker I use a .220 swift shell that I cut down so it is about 1 inch long. By the way ...

Re: Shad Season 2023

Hey Rusty, Question, How far up can the shad go on the Musky? I know when I was helping to stock back a few years ago there were a lot of dams. Bloomsbury dam was pretty tall if I remember. Bill the mailman

Re: Fly box set up

Well I guess it’s about time to put my two cents in. I also use a vest with all sorts of pockets. I carry two boxes of nymphs, two dry fly boxes with May flies, one box of caddis flies and a small box for size 18 and smaller dry flies. Also carry extra leaders and tippet material. I do not carry a ne...

Snow

Hi Folks, This is just a thought. We will be in deep doo doo if we don’t get a lot of snow between now and April. We need the snow so it can melt into the aquifers so we have water for the streams come June and beyond. Sure I like the warm weather but let’s get some snow. Look at the streams and the...

Re: rod wear ?

Hi, My bamboo is 55 years old and I still use. My wife bought it for me for my Xmas present as husband and wife. She bought it at Ramsey Outdoor store for $91.00 in 1967. It is a Orvis Madison 71/2 foot. I fish it on the Beaverkill when I am up there in May or June. This is the only rod I keep in th...

Re: ice fishing fatalities

Troutman, Ice fishing is a lot of fun when you have family or friends. Some of the ice fisher men would bring grills out onto the ice and have big picnics besides ice fishing. On Shohola Falls Lake there is a eagles nest and most of the ice fishing crowd would throw a perch or two on to the ice abou...

Re: This is what a true trout angler looks like

Rusty, it’s three years already. I helped stock the Musky with Rick and others. Never forget the time sitting on his tail gate going up a field when he stepped on the gas and I fell off onto the tall grass. I spent most of my time with Harry in his truck till we found another place to stock. I hope ...

Hi, How does the Ramapo look as far as the river flow? I usually fish from Glen Gray bridge upstream. Will try to fish this Sat. or Sun. If I can for a few hours. Bill the mailman
