Re: What's hatching on your streams?
I was out yesterday on the Musky hoping for some top water action. Went down to Hampton. The water was a little higher than I thought it would be. Lots of caddis on the water but nothing rising or splashing. Made a move to Mansfield. Nothing hatching! I did manage a half dozen or so on nymphs but it...

Appletini night!!
I"m glad you got the site back up. Even though there are other choices out there now I still check in from time to time. That pic was a few years ago for sure. I see Ege's truck in the background!

Re: Shad Season 2023
I always fish for Shad at least a few times a year. Very fun and a Jersey rite of spring. Last year I didn't get out but once or twice and the fishing wasn't that great. Hopefully, this years run will be better.

Re: WW access
The owner lives nearby and I've seen him there in the past month checking on the place. I'm not sure if the no-trespassing signs are down but if they are I would give it a go. What's the worst that could happen?

It's been my experience that those 2-year fish don't bite well for a few days. That being said it's a put-and-take fisherie so who cares as long as they are following the law. To each his own.

Re: Shad Fishing
Even though the D was high and off-color last weekend they were catching them at the Riegelsville boat launch. So it's on! Usually by the 15th of April so it is right on track. Last year's fishing was just OK for me. Hopefully, this year's run is better.

The scuttlebutt from town is he's been trying to sell this parcel off but hasn't been able to gain any interest. So by denying access to his property, he's hoping someone will offer to purchase it.
Just a bit of guerilla marketing? Post the property right before the opening day of trout season?

Re: Shad season
Ah, Shad season. Always my most favorite time of year. It's tough to choose between Shad and Trout so when I have the time I'll often split my time fishing for both. It's still a few weeks away here in North Jersey but they'll be in soon.

I hear that's a good Shad spot in the spring. Most of my Smallie fishing is above the I-80 bridge.

Re: Is Facebook Killing Trout?
It amazes me that with all the information available to the angler I still see regularly on social media pictures of fish I know have a very slim chance of survival. I used to try and politely comment on it but it is almost always taken the wrong way. Thankfully, most of the Trout pics we see around...

Re: R.I.P. Rick Ege (stonefly)
I got to know Rick pretty well stocking with him over the years and I too first met him at Ramsey's when he was working the counter there. He missed his wife very much and it's comforting to know that they are together again. For you guys on here that fish the Musky, Rick is the reason there is a gr...

Re: nj brookies... ever again?
Personally, I get bored catching only 10" rainbows. It has even affected how many trips for trout I take in a season. I'm not even sure those in charge will even care since I will still buy a fishing license.

Re: Shenandoah mountains of Virginia/Catoctin mountains of Maryland
Welcome back to the states!. I haven't fished the Shenandoah streams in decades but to be honest, there is no place I'd rather be at the beginning of May than fishing for Brookies in a SNP stream! Fall can be tough, depending on the weather and water.

Musky report 10/14
Fished the lower Musky yesterday. It was a beautiful mid-fall day and the river wasn't too crowded. I was part of the crew that helped with the fall stocking so I had some good intel. I caught a few fish in all the places I fished but the leaf hatch built as the wind picked up and became an issue la...

Re: Anyone Been Up to the Catskills?
I was up last week fishing on the upper Beaverkill. Although it was high it was still fishable with some split shot. I would concentrate on the upper sections of the rivers. That's where you're likely to find some fishable water.
