Re: An awful lot of black dots
Just checked out he Manasquan to see how the stringer brigade was doing. Only one car in the parking lot where usually on opening day the parking lot would be overflowing.

Re: Anyone out and seeing bugs hatching yet?
Fished the South Branch yesterday. LBS's were flying all over the place but no egg laying activity which I was hoping for as the trout sometimes will feed topwater on the egg layers. Cfs was 335 which may have hindered egg laying activity. Planning on going out tomorrow and hopefully getting some dr...

Re: Anyone out and seeing bugs hatching yet?
I got out last week and they were taking lbs nymphs. There were a few lbs in the air but not laying eggs. Did not see a rise.

Re: walking in the river
I'm a fan of Chota's. They last and are comfortable but more important to me are the bungee laces they sell. The last pair I bought did not come with them  but for about $10 I ordered bungees from them and swapped them out for the string laces. Nothing better than using the bungee laces to quic...

Re: Fishing Emergers Question
Why not try a cripple like Last Chance Cripple. Why nymph when you've got rising fish?

Re: Caddis "dry flly"
I rarely fish a single dry fly set up these days. I usually pair a caddis or mayfly 18-12 with a #20 dry fly emerger. So in answer to your question, seldom if you were inquiring about dry fly and all the time if you meant a nymph as the dropper.

The green sign outside will remain according to the new owner Abraham Beates. I don't know all the particulars but from what I do know it seemed easier to go with a new name and entity.

Army Navy Flyfishing Tournament
Army beat Navy today to retain the trophy in the second annual Army/Navy tournament. Army was led by Kelly Kruger who had a monster day totaling 167 inches of fish combining the mornings three 50-minute rounds and the afternoon championship round of 4 30-minute sessions. Every Cadet and Midshipman s...

Re: R.I.P. - Jim Holland
I think a proper tribute to Jim would be renaming the one fly contest to the "Jim Holland Cup". Jim was the master of ceremonies at the contest and without him there would have been no contest. I would be happy to donate money for a trophy or plaque. This is up to the state council of TU but I reall...

You say it was hot out and you did not see another angler. Then you say you did not use a thermometer but by the feell it was 70 degrees. Did you wonder why no one else was fishing?

Re: West Canada Creek
I have never fished it in August, so I don't know personally about water temps during the day. I suspect they would be okay unless there is a heat wave. It is wadable in the TCA below the dam. Remember to keep an eye on water levels as they can quickly change when they release water. A good spot to ...

Re: Hoffman's Crossing Bridge
If people are worried about lawsuits, I really can't blame them for preventing parking. Now the public has lost the access from the north side road down to the handicap pool parking area and Hoffman's. There are what room for 5 cars at the northern parking area? This is touted by the state as one of...

Re: Monmouth county spot burners needed
I live a half mile from the Manasquan. I have in the past fished it with some success using nymphs during stocking. Think "flash and trash". As has been said it is a big muddy and the fish will be all stocked. I did catch one holdover brown years ago when they stocked them, but most fish die off dur...
