Re: A PSA about your PSA

I am 45 and had a physical a few weeks ago. Just based on age, my doctor recommended a colonoscopy. She said while it may not be super pleasant, being dead is also not pleasant for my family. Apparently colon cancer is very treatable if caught early but if left untreated it becomes very deadly.

Re: Wild trout

I like the colors on that wild bow. Is the stream not known to have them and you happened to find one?
How big was the brown? Did you pull any drag?

Re: Seeing any redds?

How have flows been? Have they been too low to build redds? Or could the redds be in tributaries to these streams?

Re: stringer culling etiquette ?

It sounds illegal but also definitely immoral and unethical in my view. Perhaps another way to accomplish this would be to gift the unwanted trout to someone that looked like they needed them on the river instead of completing wasting them. Very few things will provoke an aggressive reaction with a ...

Re: good flows for stocking/spawning season

It was a bonehead move on my part. I had just driven home from NC and was rushing to return rental truck by 7 pm. I dumped my gear in my front lawn and returned the rental truck. I was so tired when I got back at 8 pm I went to bed without bringing it in. The next morning when I woke up it was all g...

good flows for stocking/spawning season

Things look pretty good for this fall season with all the recent rain. Any recent fishing reports? Unfortunately I had almost percent of my fishing gear stolen (fly rod, UL and M spinning rod, vest, boxes of flies/lures, etc) so I haven't been out since my NC trip.

Re: Big Blue Gill?

I used to catch big ones at that tiny park in Voorhees state park. It often gets covered with Algae and sometimes the ranger chases you out. Mind you, these are not state record gills but nice dinner plate size ones that love to take a dry fly on a summer evening. hoppock grove? I have caught the l...

Re: Headed to NH's White Mtns for brookies

That is tricky photography-the one in the net looks bigger than 11 inches! That deep swimming hole has to hold some brutes greater than 11 inches! Even so, tangling with plentiful, chunky 7-11 inch native brookies in heavenly surroundings on light fly tackle with good company sounds like paradise! T...

Re: Headed to NH's White Mtns for brookies

Looks like heaven! How big did the biggest brookies go? Looks like they are in the 14-15 inch range. Was the water cold?

What is that green stuff behind/wrapped around the salmon? Alaska natives smoke the salmon in a similar way I think.

Re: The dog days of summer are upon us

even better, white perch are great to eat and feisty on light tackle. I remember catching some in clinton below the reservoir about 20 years ago. Are they a remnant landlocked population that got cut off from Raritan bay hundreds of years ago when dams were put up or were they stocked at some point ...

Sounds like a great day! Were there lots of people fishing? Did the white bass (hybrid stripers?) also take crawlers?

Mending the Line (film)

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt9201772/ I was excited to see this movie in the theater yesterday-it is a fictional film about war veterans suffering from PTSD using fly fishing for trout in Montana for therapy. What's not to like? Unfortunately it has a pretty limited run in theaters-I did see it in ...

Sorry to hear about the lack of action. Sometimes you just have to offer up time and effort to the fish gods for future rewards.

Re: McMichael Creek 4-6-23

Damn right-any fishing license in the states, resident or non, is a bargain compared to other uses of money these days. It feels like inflation hasn't really affected fishing licenses. How much does a beer or glass of wine cost and a mediocre restaurant cost these days? what about 2-3 drinks with an...

This guy is seriously fast at fileting a white perch! That must be a sharp knife and decades of experience! Also those gloves help to prevent the fish from sliding around.

Re: White Perch

White perch are a smaller, scrappier cousin of the Striped bass. You are correct-they live most of the year in tidal, brackish water (bays, estuaries, brackish parts of rivers near a bay/ocean). They spawn in fresh water parts of rivers that are accessible to these brackish areas). I believe there n...
