Sad news and my condolences to his family. May it be a reminder to us all: carpe diem.

Re: Warm Water Alternatives
Explored the hinterlands of the SBR the other day--like a jungle, hot and humid. Found two smallies--and they were: 12 and 10 inches. Caught a ridiculous number of mostly-small sunfish. Fun, anyway. But, of course it would have been great to connect with more smallmouth--and larger ones! :) I've had...

Thank you all for your suggestions!
I think I've been in a canoe on that Shit Lake--damned shallow if that's the one.

Warm Water Alternatives
Right, I get it: Leave the trout alone when it's hot and the water is warmed up. Fish for alternative species. But suppose you enjoy wading and fishing streams and rivers and aren't so fond of the pond--or lake? Sunfish and bass are fun, too. Any suggestions for places to find warm water species--in...

Re: Melt-down? Storing Waders for Summer Road Trip
Hey, Rusty--that is very encouraging to me. I have a new pair of Simms waders and I am hoping NOT to destroy them by driving them cross-country, through the western heat, into the northern CA fire zone for our vacation. They say northern CA is a great trout-fishing area. Anyone know anything about t...

Melt-down? Storing Waders for Summer Road Trip
Heading west where things are hotter. Wondering if you older-hands have any advice about traveling with your waders subjected to the high heat that may happen under a pick-up truck topper/cap? Really like the new waders and don't want to damage them!

Re: Cicada Hype?
I'm in Hunterdon. Lots of cicada here, but varying with exact location. I've seen the cicada patterns being marketed and wondered if anyone had hit pay-dirt with those big flies? I myself have not seen a fish gulp down such "filet mignon".

Cicada Hype?
Neighbor says squirrels and chipmunks are eating them in her backyard. Has anyone experienced anything to support the idea of FISH eating such "filet mignon"?

Sun Gloves?
Anybody out there use them?
I'm often fishing in direct sun--use hat and long-sleeves to protect from it--but the hands get a lot of exposure--and show it.
Have a favorite brand and type?

Re: Handling Trout for C&R
Yeah, those barbless hooks DO come out easily--sometimes before I get the fish to the net!! (Four out of five times today!!)

Handling Trout for C&R
You've probably seen some variation on this: The guy cranks in a nice fish, then proceeds to handle it (plenty) with dry hands. (Guess he intended to keep those hip waders he was wearing dry for the duration.) Guy then tosses the fish back into the current and takes out a rag to wipe the slime off h...

Re: Lower South branch float trip 5/22/2021:
Must have been plenty fun! I was about to comment that you must have had low water and been scraping or running aground on the gravel bars--and then I wondered how the water level was for you? The South Branch was actually "up" a bit on Sunday--and more turbid than it's been lately. I checked the US...

Re: The Bronze-back's are here!
That fish took a #12 BH nymph--not sure what else to describe it other than "plain brown". Right before that, the same fly took a 15 inch sucker--another sort of "bronze-back", but not as hard-fighting.

The Bronze-back's are here!
Got this chunky surprise yesterday, while fishing RSB for trout. It may actually have been the same fish I'd hooked and lost about two weeks ago. Didn't do any jumping, but fought plenty before coming to the net.

Wet Wading Season Opener
Out at it today and left the waders at home. I knew I would be fishing a small stream and likely not wading deep. But the water felt good! I don't know why some people are so against wet-wading. Light going, comfortable in hot weather, and convenient pit-stops. What's not to like?!

Re: Warmth Under Waders
Thank you all for your responses to this personal inquiry. I have long-john bottoms of different thicknesses--but the thought of stepping out of waders in something with a lame-looking fly--well, that's just not cool at some place like Ken Lockwood!

Warmth Under Waders
So, at least one source says not to wear jeans under your waders--because they are abrasive to the interior of the waders, as I understand it. I've used fleece bibs (for ice-climbing) during the winter--and have been getting by with lighter fleece sweat-pants in the cool months (like lately). But I'...
