Re: who's fishing opening day ?
I don't think I've fished on opening day in 20 years but I live close to the South Branch in the Long Valley area and I drove by and noticed there wasn't a single person out so figured what the hell, lets give it a go. It was a waste of time. I threw a few cast but only fished for about 5 minutes. R...

First visit ever to VCB
I've never fished VCB before in my life but its been on my list of streams I one day wanted to get to. Finally was able to get up there last week and spent about 5 hours exploring a lot of water. Didn't really know what to expect, I've heard good reviews and some bad but fishing aside, was a really ...

Re: Quick trip
I fish that stretch a decent bit since I moved to that area 5 years ago and a week ago I also got a wild brookie there. First one I've ever caught in that stretch so figured that was good to see.

Re: Musky
There's a trib that flows into the Musky right above the Penwell Bridge that has some native brookies in it. My guess is they came from there.

Re: Net Rig
I only starting using a net like 3 years ago and used a magnetic release. I liked it but had to be careful walking through thick brush cause sometimes it would snag on something and come off but I'd usually always notice it. Well, I lost my net a few trips ago fishing a WTS so I had to order a new n...

Re: Behemoth wild brookie
I don't even know what sealed disc drag is, the reel is the only one I've ever used and its an Orvis Clearwater reel that I bought 25 years ago when I was in high school. Straight up miracle I was able to land this one without it.

Behemoth wild brookie
Hit two new WTS today. Caught this monster brookie in the first stream which was a pretty tiny creek. I think the zebra midge might of been bigger than him. Pic is of the second stream which looked amazing but I didn't get a nibble than towards the end of the day I set the hook on what was probably ...

First trip of new year
Explored some new water Sunday in what was less than ideal conditions with it being drizzling and 35 degrees but had a chance to get out so didn't wanna pass it up. Figured I wouldn't last long with the cold and didn't have high expectations but once I hooked one I warmed right up. To me, there's no...

Re: "State Open Waters"
Not sure about the boating through but if a stream is posted on both sides of the river than you definitely cannot wade through. The state may own the actual water but the river bed bottom is private property if both sides are posted.

Re: Anyone Been Fishing?
Got out yesterday. Wanted to do some exploring and try a new stretch of river so hiked into a section of the Black River I've never been to before. Was a nice and at times difficult hike in. This section of the river looked amazing and had the feeling like I was definitely gonna get into some fish. ...

SBR and WTS 10/8
Hit the SBR and a WTS today and man do we need rain. Went to one of my usual spots on the SBR and walked to a hole where you usually cannot see the bottom and the water was crystal clear and you could see straight to the bottom. I could actually see a number of browns and bows in the water. I crept ...

Re: Very large native brookies-video
I'll throw out a guess and mention a stream only because its mostly public and very well known. Sorta looks like the Black River to me but I've never caught browns or brookies that looked like that in there so perhaps it was filmed below Hacklebarney on the private club section.

Re: Paulins Kill - Are There Fish in This Section?
Can't speak to if there's any good fishing in that section cause I'm not familiar with it but by looking at tax maps, it looks like just about all of that stretch is fishable from one side or the other. Most of the northern bank is owned by NJ DEP land and some of the southern bank but there is some...

Re: Report: Clairmont Stretch 13 June 2020. No Trespassing???
That rope swing has been there forever and was just recently taken down. There is a small stretch on the side of the river that the rope swing was on of private land that starts below where electric brook flows in but the other side is public. Not only did they take the swing down but they cut the b...

Re: WTS 1/30
was caught on a black wooly bugger with a split shot about 3 inches above fly. Figured best shot was fishing it slow in some of the deeper water with the weather but only bite and fish came from dead drifting it through some faster pocket water

WTS 1/30
My plan this year is to really start exploring some new water..especially the WTS. Last couple weeks been sorta making a mental list of places I want to explore this season. It was only like 30 degrees yesterday but I've been dying to get out and had a chance so figured what the heck. Hit a spot I'v...

Re: Who Uses a Net?
Always have the net with me and almost always use it cause I feel like its easier on the fish to net it and leave it submerged while I remove the hook even if its small. I feel like its critical to use on much bigger trout because I use light tackle and feel like the quicker I can get it in the net ...
