Re: Five days on the upper Delaware coming up
Fished last Thursday- Saturday on the BK, Willow and East Branch. Didn’t catch a ton of fish but most fish were big and healthy. Very few dinks. We had olives in the morning, then sulphers. Caddies were almost always present. Spinners were effective. Had sporadic March browns and green drakes but mo...

Re: Shenandoah River
Reached out to Murray’s fly shop. Tried to set up a guided trip but we couldn’t get our schedules aligned. When Harry saw this he sent me a detailed email of spots to fish and what flies to throw. Class act. Will be stopping in for flies and to have a book signed.

Re: Shenandoah River
Thanks - I will definitely stop in there and purchase an autographed copy of one of his books. The report seems fishy (in a good way), thanks!

Re: Shenandoah River
Great idea - I usually don’t think of that for smallies. Maybe a hellgrammite pattern under there would look good.

Shenandoah River
I’ll be heading down to the south fork of the Shenandoah for the first week of October. Wondering if the smallies will still be active enough for poppers, or should I be thinking clousers and crayfish patterns? Has anybody fish down there this time of year?

Each method has their challenges, but nothing beats the pure joy of casting a dry fly - a single fly with no dropper. It’s often not the best way to catch fish, but it will always be the most enjoyable for me. If I’m throwing that fly at wild fish, well, that’s gold.

Re: Pequest River April 23
Agree there are more people out or at least crammed into less fishing space. Was off on Wednesday so I poked around the SB and found cars at all the pullouts. Same thing the day before at the Muddesquan down by me.

Yes - always bring a net. If you are catching and releasing it is a must. (Rubber mesh only)

Adult bunker were heavy yesterday in southern Monmouth county. Fished at sunrise but no luck. Bait is a few hundred yards off the beach. Not sure if they came in later on the incoming. Now is the time to dust off that 10-wgt...

Re: Trout to Smallmouth transition
This is a great question - and I think difficult to answer. The Musky definitely has better trout holding water the further downstream you go, so I'm not sure there truly is a 'safe' spot. For the SB I've used Clinton (starting below the falls) as my breakpoint, though last year I was still seeing t...

Definitely smallmouth fishing on the Raritan (all branches) and the Delaware. Largemouth fishing in the yak, too, at most of the local lakes.

Natirar smallmouth fishing
Fished this spot on the north branch Sunday looking for some smallies. Got a few little guys and a bigger one further downstream. Expected more action but the water was pretty shallow. Great flows and clarity though. Fish caught on a tan clouser.

Still stripers in the surf
Watched a guy fishing with light tackle ( probably fluking) catch a decent sized striper right out of the wash on Saturday. It was mid morning so no need to get up early. Ocean Temp is 64°. Perfect fly rod scenario.

Re: Report: Clairmont Stretch 25 May, 2019
After fishing the SB for years this was my first time on this stretch of the river. Fished from the small concrete bridge up to the rope swing. Beautiful water, though no bugs while I was there. Blind casted a caddis and caught one small brookie. Saw a crayfish the size of a lobster.

Re: Anyone Been Up to the Catskills?
Fished Thur/Fri/Sat. East Branch had the best water levels, though by Saturday the Willow and BK were in good shape. Lots of caddis, some March Browns and sulphurs, plus Olives. Saw sporadic to no rises most of the time, though there was a good patch with the olives on Friday where we caught some ni...

No cuts or blues! The day I was out I heard a lot about blues in the wash but none for me.

Threw the new line out front last night. It performed perfectly and I was also treated to some pods of dolphins moving through.
