Oh so Gore Tex works in waders that we all use but not good for raincoats. Got it.

Re: 2022 Fishing Digest

I think a hybrid plan with the stocking dates and old system but allow all waters to be catch and release from the period March 15-April 9. This can often expand the season by 2 weeks if the weather is nice and offer some nice fishing early season fishing. This probably would not piss off too many p...

Re: Pressure

Kept one once that was deep hooked and bleeding. Was disappointed... Tasted like cross between bad hatchery salmon and bad hatchery trout. Which is exactly what it is I guess. Not good.

Re: Franklin pond creek

I used to fish it a couple of times a year way back in the early 2000's...was some browns in there with a mix of rainbows. not sure if the browns were wild as they stocked them back then. Seemed like a healthy creek back then. Have not thought of it in a long time...

Re: The Bronze-back's are here!

The Smallmouth Bass is a true beneficiary of global warming and climate shift. The size and numbers are increasing everywhere (except) the Lower Delaware?? but in lakes and streams the numbers and frequency in traditional trout streams are on the uptick. I think the trend in throughout the whole cou...

Re: New Member: Euro Nymphing Equipment Advice

I would go with the 3 or 4 wt. 10.5 to 11ft. Get a reel to go with it and save on the reel but not with the rod. That way you can keep your existing outfit in tact and ge able to switch back and forth between indicator and Euro easily. I have a T and T but other good euro rods out there. You can by ...

Lake Waywayanda Ice Out?

As of last weekend it was amazingly still frozen bank to bank. Anyone seen it this week? No answer at the ranger stations and bait shops are not in the loop.

Pre Season Catch and Release Peroid

I have heard rumors that the state is still considering a catch and release (pre opening day this year) two week session sort of like last year. I know the new compendium does not mention it but apparently it is still in play. Anybody heard anymore on this?

Re: Places to fish in NJ

Yes there are tons of kayaks and paddle boards ect out there. Ramsey Outdoor has a concession for kayaks ect. Lots of activity. Bass bugged it a bunch when if first became public but it was mediocre at best and was better when it was not public of course... needs a state bass reintroduction of large...

Cartop launch in Ramapo Lake? That is one monster carry in... unless there is some secret entrance but I doubt that.

Re: Water Gap Grass

Its definitely grass. Fished bass bugs on top the entire day with bright sun and the fish came up 9 - 11 AM. 18 inches or so. Swinging flies was not possible with all that grass. It was there two days before also. I guess it is the long wavy strands you see coming off the bottom an waving in the cur...

Water Gap Grass

Floated the Worthington area yesterday. Odd amounts of long thin grass at all levels of the water column. Sort of grass you might find along the bank? but odd that its so abundant at this low water time of the year. Don't think T Storm related - Dam releases somewhere upriver? Odd to see in otherwis...

Re: Pequannock river

I agree that the numbers seem be be down. I have got some holdover rainbows in the fall but fewer browns than in the past few years. Insect life is good and flows have been decent. Some spots seen especially void of browns. Hope it comes back.

Lower Wanaque Damaged Severely

Noticed yesterday that a backhoe has begun to scoop out out the streambed and use this material to create a road along the stream. This is behind the stores on Wanaque Ave in Pompton Lakes. Not finding anything out on line? Devastating to the stream back there. Any idea one what is going on?

Re: Dry fly floatant

Guides out west use homemade concoctions... Mostly Lighter fluid and Abalene... I was skeptical but tried it and it works great. Fish don't care in the least about the smell. Dry it off with a few false casts and you are good. Better that anything else I have tried and I've tried them all. Except fo...

Re: Provo River UT

I have fished it a few times at this time of year. Excellent option if you don't want to ski. Managed well with lots of access. I heard the state did the smart thing. Bought up access sites and then built the reservoirs and made them bottom controllable release to create a tailwater. Good winter mid...
