Maybe the rain will cut down on opening day crowds. Nah.

Thank you for starting this community. It has expanded and enhanced my view of people from backgrounds different than mine. I have learned quite a bit from members of this community. Thanks!

Re: Wading-rain Jacket recommendations
I have never, NEVER, had a DWR that couldn't be rejuvenated. My 20 year old reddington jacket still works fine (its the zipper that failed). Proper washing and rejuvenating does the trick every time. Here is what I use: https://www.nikwax.com/en-us/products/Cleaning/tech-wash/ https://www.nikwax.co...

Re: Fly box set up
How many boxes do you need to hold size 12 Adams? An altoids tin or equivalent is all one needs. haha I really only fish a few patterns, so I only take a few boxes with me on the river. I do have different boxes for different places I fish. For example I have a "Western" box for when we fish out wes...

Re: New Mexico, Chama, and the Pecos
I only know privately owned waters in that area and the public can't gain access unfortunately. Best of luck in your fishing travels! Hey Rusty, Those rules are changing. As long as you enter the water from public land, then you are not trespassing. Of course this is a fight that some see as not ov...

New Mexico, Chama, and the Pecos
Greetings fellow travelers. We are heading to New Mexico in a few weeks and we are going to fish! For the Chama area we have hired a guide. For the Pecos we are going on our own. We have a pretty good idea of where to fish and what flies to use. We will visit a local shop for additional information ...

Re: R.I.P. - Jim Holland
Instead of just ranting about how bad this is I'm offering a remembrance: At one of the classes we were going to tie an adams. He said that he had some special dubbing that we could use "It will definitely increase your chances to catch fish". So, he gave us some grey fluff and we dutifully followed...

This totally sucks, he started us on our fly tying journey with his Sunday classes, many years ago.

Re: Massive flooding in YNP
Joking aside, sorry to hear about the people displaced by the flooding. Not the rich assholes with houses on the river but, the folks that run the restaurants, hotels etc in Livingston and Gardiner.

Re: Gas prices $$$$$$$
I have done hypermiling on my regular commute. The main problem, as expressed above, is everyone else. Traveling at or below the speed limit will enrage quite a few people. I regularly go 65 on the parkway, and daily, often multiple times, while I going 65 in the slow lane, I will see a car come up ...

Re: preference on stained or crystal clear water ?
If the fish are rising, then I don't care. Stained vs clear IMHO are two different beasts. Yes in stained one can get a little closer, and a bad presentation doesn't put the fish off. In stained water it can be difficult to find the fish, so there is more casting to fishy places, and trying to find ...

Re: fishing etiquette ?
There is none. Yes I will let the kids have a shot, of course. I have even walked away from rising fish for 2 teens who were so stunned they couldn't stop thanking me. No biggie. Other adults DGAF about you or me and will fish right on top of us. Iv'e seen it, called it out and was challenged to a f...

Re: Monmouth county spot burners needed
Change your desired species , that makes things alot easier . You live in an apple orchard and your looking for oranges . We live within walking distance of Garveys pond, and throughout the summer walk there on weekends to fish for pumpkin seed, and the occasional bass. We prefer to fish streams fo...

Re: Monmouth county spot burners needed
I have fished the Toms many times. I do best there with streamers and wets. I either cast or let then drift downstream, then strip back through the "fishy" spots. Thanks to everyone for the tips, I figured that it was possible that all of the fish were gone by June, but I thought it unlikely. There ...
