Re: Has anyone here fished the Little Lehigh in Allentown ?

As tittle states. read that it was a great place to fish for wild browns & stocked trout in the Allentown area near the park ? Looking to go there maybe this week 15 to 20 years ago this was my favorite place to fish. As it degraded (there was a significant silting problem supposedly caused by cons...

Re: cold feet ? while wading in the winter ?

I've never used heated socks. I found that sock linings and wool socks over that, in roomy boots, was plenty warm enough. The key is lots of air and insulation.

I thank you for keeping this forum running, I know it;s a labor of love and pretty much thankless. I've learned a lot from the posts here.

Re: Any New Toys Purchased or Waiting on Delivery?

Robert Bolt just emailed me as he is starting on my 8'2 4wt. Now time to start selling stuff to finance it. I don't care much for the status of fine fly fishing equipment. What I enjoy is making it myself. I learned a long time ago how to build a plastic fly rod myself, using blanks from some of th...

Gutted and scaled? Do you eat the skin? I don't eat what I catch, so I'm super interested.

These responses are making me think back to the 'Boofests from years ago. Drossi, Rollcast, and whoever else out there with a bamboo rod--let me know if you want to hit a stream together.
Let's do it. I'm in Glen Gardner, so most trout streams are near me.

Re: Unnamed Brookie WTS

Sweet stream. Very sweet stick, love the darker cane. What taper and weight is the Elser? I have a 7' 3" Recker done on a Garrison 204e taper that fishes a 4wt, my small stream rod as well. The taper is a Payne 98 which the builder tweaked just a little. It's a 4 wt. Very nice. You guys, this is gr...

Re: fishing etiquette ?

There is no etiquette. Last time I fished the Gorge, I was casting to a lone riser in a very small run. As I was adjusting my line, a woman walked up to within 3 feet of the riser, and watched me cast. She had put the fish down, and didn't understand why I was so enraged. I walked away without words...

The only native trout in NJ is the brookie. Anything else is either wild, or stocked. Keep it real.

Re: Need a flyrod that won't break the bank?

I tried to start a rod building business in conjunction with a local fly shop that didn't pan out. I have a pretty expansive inventory of rods that are good quality components, with sock and tube, that Ill let go for very low prices. I need to divest myself of this inventory. If you let me know wha...

Re: What Flies Do You Throw on Top for Bass?

Deer hair poppers, frog imitations, Dahlberg divers. Toss them into the weeds/pads, let them sit, then twitch them a little. Wait for the explosion! Use a 7/8 weight because pulling them out of the veggies is difficult.

Not knowing what other flies you had in your boxes, one of the things you can do in that situation is find a hackled fly that is the same size and close in color to the naturals, and clip the hackle on the top and bottom to create a spinner.

Matt
This. It'll work.

99% of these fly dudes wouldnt know what do if they bought in a 24 inch all wild brown like this. Oh I forget they never will because after a certain size most will no longer feed on flies they only feed on other smaller bait fish & crustaceans
Dude. Caught on a 16 caddis dry. In the dark.

Re: Final 2019 Trout and First on a New Rod

Very nice rod, I really like the green wraps. Not familiar with that taper, though. I've heard of Ronbo bamboo rods, how was he to work with, and are you satisfied? How did you decide on the taper? My first bamboo build was with pale green wraps and dark green tipping, blued hardware. I wrapped a Di...

While some here would love to kill all the otters, mink, mergansers, egrets, herons, ospreys, eagles and other fish predators, I say wildlife first. We put out tons of easy prey twice a year, and you're surprised it attracts predators? Personally, watching a predator stalk a meal makes me stop fishi...

Very nice! Here's an ugly story about my largest pick. When I was young and stupid, I fished lake Hopatcong in a canoe with three friends. Two to a canoe. I managed a 22" pick, and as I was letting him go, my friend asked to keep him. His dad would love it. I did. When we got home that evening, he d...

I was thinking the same as I read this excellent report. Fishing the same areas in the spring would be an absolute blast! I used to vacation in Vermont, and springtime fishing was SO MUCH better than the autumn. Welcome back to the states!. I haven't fished the Shenandoah streams in decades but to b...

Just floated the Beaverhead a couple of weeks with a guide. He had a very simple solution: a Maxwell House Coffee Can for his nymphs, all ten thousand of them... Made things really easy! I am adopting the the same system, for my nyphs, just on a smaller scale. No more putting them all inn order unt...
