Re: This is what a true trout angler looks like

I did exactly that thing after back surgery in 1999. I may be doing again soon simply because I'm old.

I am glad to see they are expanding a bit and cleaned up some.
I always thought the clutter gave the place a bit of charm.

Re: Well the time has come

BFB for the most part wont need it. Yet. I started using a wading staff for big fast water when I was about your age. As time went on, those waters became progressively smaller and slower. At 70, I now use one one in all streams, no matter how easy to wade. Once you reach a certain age, you're nuts...

Re: Took a walk

all it takes is a mere 150 feet away from the stocking point. thats a no go for some. https://i.imgur.com/c5hTp3p.jpg I see you have your fair share of Japanese knotweed. I've found that in many places -- more so out west than here in east -- that enough people think like you that fishing is often ...

But do they fish shirtless for pikes?
I've never seen one wearing a shirt while fishing.

Do we know what states it can only be 2 flies
AFAIK, only Maryland. It goes across all tackle types: "only two hook units per line". That's flies, lures, bait hooks, ice jigs, whatever.

I believe that Oregon has a limit of only one fly in FF only waters.

Re: How many flies do you fish on a nymph rig

2 when Im swing the fly rod.......  Yeah, I swing wets much more often than I fish nymphs, but in both cases, it's always two flies. In part, that's because I now live in Maryland which limits the number of flies you can use to two, but I do the same when I'm fishing in NJ or PA, because...

Re: Army wins inaugural Army Navy fly fishing contest

This makes total sense since the Navy guys only know saltwater species. :D I see the smiley, but I once spent part of a day on the Gunpowder Falls informally guiding a midshipman at the Academy who was from Bozeman, Mt. He certainly knew trout. And I once worked with a retired Naval officer who'd s...

It also means shad are running!
I've never been able to tear myself away from the Hendrickson hatch to find time for shad. Probably my loss.

I dont remember if we filleted it or not, but there sure were a lot of bones!
Yes, there are a lot of bones, and that's why they've got to be filleted in three pieces.

Re: Slime dart

In about three weeks, I'll be marking the 58th anniversary of my first fish on a fly -- a good sized pickerel from Medford Park. There used to be some nice ones there.

They're actually good eating -- take a fillet off the top of the back first, then one off each side.
