Re: R.I.P. Rick Ege (stonefly)

A lovely write up about Rick (and the late John Shollenberger) from Chris Wood, the president of TU national.

Re: Who Uses a Net?

I only got a net after I got my *gasp* tenkara rod. I had John AKA Riversong Nets build me a custom one with a longer handler. This makes landing a fish when you dont have a reel much, much easier. I use it more and more lately when not fishing with the tenkara rod, which isnt often anymore, as the ...

Who Uses a Net?

Since the netting thread is evolving into a new thread about nets, how often do you use a net for trout? If you do or dont what is your reasoning behind it?

Re: R.I.P. Rick Ege (stonefly)

Yesterday I cleaned up the old Hardy reel Rick always joked about me having since I told him our different casting/rod preferences meant I never wanted to own one of his rods when he passed. Rick prefered a mid-flex rod and I like a faster tip flex rod. So I will fish his old Hardy Princess on my r...

Re: R.I.P. Rick Ege (stonefly)

Thank you for posting this, Brian. I first encountered Rick on the old school NJ Trout along with many of you. I find it amazing how many friendships these forums and the greater TU community have fostered. Not long after being introduced to TU Mike Rediger, Mr. MCR, myself and a few friends started...

Re: Happy new yrs!!!!

Happy New Year everyone, don’t forget your 2020 fishing license if you head out. In years past some had posted pictures with the previous years license visible. Good luck out there and stay off the icebergs when fishing (Tom RU listening? LOL) I don’t know what you are talking about...... But yea, ...

Re: Final 2019 Trout and First on a New Rod

Nice rod and fish. I just picked up a Simroe 7.5" 3wt the other day. You will get to really like bamboo, especially on the small streams. It is good for most things with the exception of dredging nymphs on the bottom of large rivers, which is not my favorite type of fishing anyway. It’s a dangerous...

Nice looking rod, Tom.

And I'm glad to see there are still fish in that stream :D Just be careful on that bridge; I believe there's only one handrail?
There is a handrail on the left and right side..... depending on which way you walk across

Dude let’s get a beer or fish!!! Or both!

Re: Final 2019 Trout and First on a New Rod

Very nice rod, I really like the green wraps. Not familiar with that taper, though. I've heard of Ronbo bamboo rods, how was he to work with, and are you satisfied? How did you decide on the taper? My first bamboo build was with pale green wraps and dark green tipping, blued hardware. I wrapped a D...

Re: Trout Netting Replacement

Most likely! If you are on Instagram look up Riversongnets. He builds his own custom nets so perhaps he could do just your netting. He does the clear “ghost” style rubber. So as long as a size exists he can install it.

Final 2019 Trout and First on a New Rod

Hi all, With the temps on the 40s and the water up December 31st was a good day for the last trout of the year! With nothing going on during the day I headed to a nearby WTS to get the last out of my 2019 license. I also wanted to take the chance to break in my new Ronbo bamboo rod. A friend and rod...

Re: Some wild browns

Nice winter colors on those fish! I need to get off my lazy ass and do some fishing! I also enjoy the winter months for trout. Cold yes, but also very peaceful and easier to find water to yourself. You spend too much time on the links and brewpubs to be a trout angler. I like to divide my time betw...

Re: South Holston/Tuckasegee Rivers

The South Holston holds 5,000 to 7,000 trout per mile, so great fishing. It's a honey hole in winter when our rivers are frozen over largely. I have three buddies that guide there and they are always trying to get me down there. Thats a hell of a fish count!! 7000 fish per mile would also be 1.3 fi...

Re: nj brookies... ever again?

If you went to ANY of the meetings offered by the State you would know that 60% of trout fishermen practice e C&R while only 40% actually catch and keep. I think those numbers came out in all the surveys. there must be some bias with those surveys. Maybe the anglers volunteering to do a survey are ...
