Re: March Flytying Madness This Sunday 03/24 at the Pequest

What can I say? Errands took longer than I thought, an appointment ran over, and before I knew it, the clock had struck 2:30.

Glad to hear the event was successful tho!

Re: Gorge stocking

KLG is over rated imo. Those trout there are pounded on a daily basis. The trout must get tired of getting a new hook into mouth everyday. Maybe 2-3 times a day. Ive watched as many as 10 guys fish the same exact spot after each other. Yes. The place is picturesque. But between the dog walkers that...

Re: SBRR the premier trout stream?

I would say that the SBRR is the most productive wild trout mid-sized stream in NJ and hopefully additional land around the watershed will be protected. I second Pat's response, with "mid-sized stream" emphasized. I know far better smaller streams for wild trout (i.e., ones you can leap over). Now,...

Re: Raritan river 3/9/19:

Well I live in Hoboken. It's not a river, but you can catch trout up at that lake in West New York by 85th street. Also, you can get some decent stripers in April/May off the Hoboken pier, not to mention some interesting conversations with the motley crew of fisherman there. Just be careful of the ...

Re: Stocking

So, I believe stocking starts next week....I know Rusty follows the truck around to find fish catchable for him, who else here is a stocking truck chaser....My grand-dad used to chase it in PA, because grandma loved trout!!! I think they taste like shit!!!! If I see it I'll take pictures to let all...

Re: stuck in a rut

Venting on a Monday morning. I have been skunked the last 3 times I was out, but was having a very good winter fishing season until then. Streamers, pheasants tails, stoneflies, and egg patterns had been working well and all of a sudden they were not. Maybe my technique has been off? Streams flows ...

Re: Bamboo Fly Rod over Fireplace Mantle?

Thanks for the responses. In fact I do fish this rod; I just thought I'd store it above the fireplace when I wasn't using it. It is in pristine condition. And sorry GHackle, it's not for sale. The fish Gods would never forgive me  Hope to see you fellas out on the stream soon. I am happy that ...

Bamboo Fly Rod over Fireplace Mantle?

So I have a beautiful 7 foot bamboo fly rod made by Bernie Elsner that I would love to hang over my fireplace mantle. However, I'm wondering if the fire would eventually dry it out or mess with the coating? Intelligent replies only please, no mocking

I hope you eventually find those pieces, Bill. One of the up sides to fewer people fishing these days is the diminished risk of someone stealing your stuff.

Re: Wild Trout

Caught them on a size 20 midge, eh? Beautiful fish, but I think you're a bit shy of the 20/20 club  I usually don't use smaller than a size 16--just can't see the hook eye, and the magnifying glasses don't help me much.

Saw LBS and Beatis on the Musky yesterday. The warm temps got them popping for a few days anyway.
Fishing or surveying? Haven't been to Musky or any of the "larger" NJ streams since the rains blew them out. If fishing any luck?
I don't think Brian sees the two as distinct

Baetis mayflies 2/5/19

I saw a few Baetis mayflies fluttering in the air as I walked from my car into my building this morning. I keep a fly rod in the trunk just in case situations like this "rise up." Lucky for me there are a few streams (wild and stocked) within 10 mins of where I work; perhaps I'll tie on some BWO fli...

They should consider the Meadowlands for a location, plenty of nearby lodging and the out of state vendors can easily visit NYC after the show if they want.
From the hungover appearance of some of the exhibitors on Sunday it seems they were able to find NYC from Edison.
