Crappies

My sons and I were fishing a Morris county bass pond on Wednesday when all of a sudden we started hooking up into some crappies. I'd never caught one before. Man, they are a great fight on a 4 wt! They all took line from the reel and were very splashy--great fun!

Re: Cooler temps

Air temps the last few days have been running about 10 degrees below average, esp. at night. I hope to wet a line tomorrow after work. Pray for those poor trout once my FBPT pierces the surface film and begins its hunt.

Re: Lamington/NBRR Smallies - biggest seen?

Unfortunately, the Lamington suffers mightily from man's interference, leaving it both a poor trout and smallie fishery. The Kay Dam that Morris County Parks owns is a large contributor to the problem, at least for trout. Further down the Black when it becomes the Lamington, it suffers from current...

Re: Lamington/NBRR Smallies - biggest seen?

Razor, I've found some good smallie water in the Delaware below Carpentersville, NJ. Fish the runs and around the boulders.

What Bluegill Can Tell Us About the Future

I took my sons to a local pond today for some bluegill. The little 3 wt outfitted with a small hopper produced tons of fun & tons of fish. However, what struck me was this: a pack of bike-riding tweens showed up, all with rods, worms, and bobbers. Now, being the dry-fly snob I am, I would usually ha...

Re: Water Temps

At least where I live, next week's temps look like they're inching back up into the 87-88 range during the day. But some of these cool mornings with low dew points (50s) have been delightful. I also looked at NJ's drought map which says the state is in a green "normal' range. Do normal water levels ...

Re: CBS video on fly fishing's growing popularity during Q-tine

People still buy into the whimsical & enchanting Romanticism of The West. Don't get me wrong--it's beautiful, but it's not wholly prelapsarian as many (esp in the East) might believe. Between the heavy metals from mining, as Rusty mentioned, and the pesticide runoff from agriculture, you'd better th...

Re: Spent a few days in Deposit NY fishing the upper west branch delaware

My favorite river, but I only fished it two days this year, a new personal low. I think I put in 15 days last year. It was a combination of locals initially asking out of towners not to come up and later, way too many out of towners overrunning the river. Looks like you have landed some nice ones. ...

I see you haven't met my wife.
Lol.that rule applies to all wives my friend.

Don't I know it....10 seconds to get in the doghouse, days to get out of it...
Isn't this consistent with warming quickly and cooling slowly?

And up over 70 already...it happens quickly. Warms quicker than it cools it seems.
You will see this concept applies to many natural things, people included.

Re: Water Temps

Looks like some much needed rain is headed our way for certain. My guess is limited flooding for most trout streams, but plenty in low lying areas and along the coast. Time to make sure the generator fires right up.... NWS is saying very little rain here on the coast, but they have said that before...
