Re: Summer Trout

The Toms River stays cool year round. I have fished it for years and never seen the temperature above 68 degrees. Fished it about 10 days ago and temp was 64 degrees. That being said the fishing there hasn’t been the same since the State stopped stocking Brookies and browns. The rainbows don’t do w...

Re: A new honey hole for me on the Musky

The Musky is 42 miles long from the Lake Hopatcong dam to the Delaware River. You can fish about 30 + of those miles without issue on either public lands or private lands that allow public access. There are so many spots just like the one you are showing here that are NEVER fished that it blows my ...

Re: A new honey hole for me on the Musky

Haha - I hear you. It's not malicious by any means, it's just that people do not know any better. Agreed, but I have also seen jerks start yelling at those anglers which is not helpful. Just have a polite conversation and inform them of the consequences of their actions and most will stop fishing o...

I've been hitting some local ponds with my sons. God bless the bluegill. Tons of easy fun when the weather turns warm.

Definitely a black stonefly. You might have been thrown off some since anglers traditionally associate them with the late winter/early spring months.

Re: Sipping Rusty Spinners

My legs are pretty nicked up from bug bites since I've been wearing shorts for the last few weeks...but I love wet wading as much as the next guy, esp on a really hot day.

Hi, You do not have to have a front plate on your car now a days in Jersey. New cars do not need them.
Is that right? Recently, I've been seeing quite a few cars with only rear NJ plates, didn't know if they were just being mavericks or if a law had changed.

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness

Exactly. Most anglers and hunters have no idea when their licenses were last checked because our COs use binoculars to watch from afar. If they approach you, it's either because you aren't displaying your license or they are watching you do something illegally. I keep mine in my hip pack. I've lost...

Re: Euro Nymph Techniques

Great info and illustration!!!, but you lost me at "eggs" Egg flies. I like a small sucker spawn/ blood dot pattern in a light color. Like I said, my method isnt truly "Euro" but I dont complain when I catch fish. While I understand their use in the great lakes tribs, away from that it's one step a...

Re: Tippet rings - thoughts?

This video (both creepy and hilarious with the Barbee Doll) suggests tippet rings are either "the best thing since sliced bread or may represent the end of civilized fly fishing as we know it." In any case, I definitely like them for nymphing but am yet to use them on a dry fly (microdrag issu...

For Sale: 7/8 TFO Rod plus Teton Tioga Reel with line

I have a barely-used TFO 7/8 wt 9 ft 4 piece rod, with a sack and case, plus a Tioga Reel and fly line that I want to get rid of. I used the rod maybe 5 times a few years ago...it's otherwise been stored in the case.

PM me if you're interested.

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness

[M]ost here don't know that we regulate hunting, fishing and trapping not only based on science, but also based on popular culture at the time. That's good to hear, but I doubt many would ultimately find that surprising. The word "policy" comes from the Greek "politeia," which roughly means "citize...
