hoppock grove?martalus wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 6:07 pmI used to catch big ones at that tiny park in Voorhees state park. It often gets covered with Algae and sometimes the ranger chases you out. Mind you, these are not state record gills but nice dinner plate size ones that love to take a dry fly on a summer evening.

Re: The dog days of summer are upon us
I've kayaked a few NJ reservoirs and picked up tons of panfish on my 7 ft 3 wt. If you like cheap thrills, and don't want to get arrested, it's hard to beat.

A huge wild brown...
Stick.
Today I fished Jackson Brook in Morris County, which the State listed (in 2014) as holding wild browns. It is very picturesque once you get upstream of the picnic area, but woefully empty of trout--or any fish, for that matter. A nice place to hike but that's about it.

Re: Sulphurs
I was out on a hallway-wide WTS last night around 7 pm with a 3 wt and a light Cahill #16. This stream, which "had gone dormant" for a few years, has returned, thank God. Dry fly fishing in May is one of the perks of living in NJ.

I usually have a policy of not joining any club that would have me as a member, but I love the site and have made some good friends. Thanks Tom.

Troutman, if you're worrying about wearing out your fly rod, you better get yourself an agent and a corporate sponsor

I kayak there with my sons all the time in the summer. It's a peaceful place but one has to remember how unforgiving nature can be. What a terrible way to go. RIP to those guys.

Re: Public Service Announcement
I used to catch fish there but not too much as of late. In fact, my largest Brookie(a fat girthy one) came out of that river, but it doesn't fish well for long, in part because it heats up quickly in the spring. I also tried the two wild streams but to no avail.

Stay away from the Black River until further notice. I got skunked there today and I highly doubt there are any fish in that river, even tho it was stocked two weeks ago.
