Tippet rings - thoughts?

I have some, but very rarely use them. It appears to be an ideal use for a dropper fly, but anyone can achieve the same thing by either tying off of the eye or the tail bend (that could be a different discussion). Or, is there an advantage to using a tippet ring? Who uses them and why is there an ad...

Re: Euro Nymph Techniques

Thanks for supporting local businesses, Shannon's is a great shop. Sunny days are not the best fishing time, as someone once told me, trout don’t like to look into the sun. It is just a reminder the predators like the blue heron and others can see trout more easily on sunny days, so trout avoid bein...

Re: 22" Largemouth

Those that size are a lot of fun on a Tenkara rod. OK, I may not have caught one that size On a Tenkara, but I've been close.

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness

So it looks like most people here fish barbless because it’s your own personal preference, which is fine. Fish how you want to fish. I still don’t think we need a regulation for it when it does not prevent excess fish mortality. Getting a hook out of yourself easy is a good reason for you to fish b...

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness

I always, almost always fish with a barbless hook for one reason that lightenup mentioned. If I accidently hook flesh or clothing, it is always easier to remove a barbless hook. While that alone is a good reasons to forbid barbed hooks, I disagree it should be in the regulations. You cannot legislat...

When it reaches the end of it's rope, that’s all there is. Less likely to happen on regular FF gear, but could happen. What Tenkara rod do you have? Tenkara USA Iwana - 12 foot. I also have the smaller handle that allows you to use it as a 9'6'' rod. I actually use it in the smaller configuration f...

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

So, for Twism and Cappy, what was the issue when you lost a large fish on a Tenkara? I made the mistake of dropping the tip, putting stress on the tippet when the fish bolted, should of kept it high and let the rod absorb the stress of the run. Did that yesterday and all went well. Yeah, not much s...

So, for Twism and Cappy, what was the issue when you lost a large fish on a Tenkara? I was fishing high water in the KLG and the fish bolted downstream faster than I could follow or stop it. Re: Better fishing on the no frill brand water now

The Division stocked nearly all of their spring allocation of trout by the regular opening day. Next week they put out the last 55,000 across the state at random times and rivers. Fresh fish... cant ask for more then that. Some of the fish that Ive been hooking into  like they went thru 4 ro...

I have also seen a very experienced fly fisherman use two strike indicators or different colors so he knew which direction his fly was in relation to the indicators. Why not use three indicators so you can also capture movement along the Z axis.... 3D nymphing, its the future! "Virtual Nymphi...

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

Exactly. If you cant reach a spot where a traditional cast and drift would be necessary, you cant fish it with Tenkara . I havent busted mine out in a while, ever since I lost a really nice bow in the KLG I have went back to using a reel so I can let them run when needed. Well you can, but with var...

How come no indicator needed with the Tenkara? It can be very much like euro-nymphing. No floating line laying on the water. Exactly. Re: WTS 5/3/2020

We all know Tenkara fishing is cheating, dry or wet. Why? Many people do not like Tenkara fishing although that fishing method is older than having a reel to hold your line. It is more restrictive, you cannot just cast anywhere, any distance, but since all you have is a leader and tippet, the fly s...
