FISHING REGULATIONS UPDATE: New Freshwater Fishing Regulations will go into effect February 17. The new rules are designed to provide more angling opportunities and to simplify the regulations, while providing adequate protection of our fisheries resources. Major changes include: • Removal of the t...

Re: musky restoration

My firm will be invited to bid on this. It is disappointing to me that no actual river restoration work will happen. The plan for the river is to simply remove the old and dangerous concrete diving platform in the river in Hackettstown's park. No in-stream habitat restoration. well that sucks. the ...

Re: Edison Fly Fishing Show Jan. 23-25

We went for the first time since covid. If you saw a couple wearing masks on Saturday, that was us. Our impression was it was very lightly attended. We were surprised in fact. Other Saturdays in previous years, it was shoulder to shoulder by 10:30 on Saturday. We got a fantastic deal on some 6 wt r...

Re: Edison Fly Fishing Show Jan. 23-25

Nice to see the way overpriced beef jerky booth was still there. Along with umpteenth outfitters for exotic places I'll never travel. The seminars were even a bit meh on Saturday, the 2 I really wanted to see about wet fly fishing conflicted with one another and were the 1st ones scheduled, I got c...

Re: Edison Fly Fishing Show Jan. 23-25

Good to hear "all" the big rod manufacturers attended, wasn't the case the last couple of times I attended. So how did the new T&T Contact III look and feel, if you took a look at it, assuming they had samples to see and cast? I saw T&T, but didn't go into any of the rod booths. I have all the fly ...

Re: Edison Fly Fishing Show Jan. 23-25

I agree, two days for the expo is plenty. I've skipped it the past two years, too many outfitters, big name manufacturers not attending, and no deals everyone wants top dollar and charge tax even if out of state and paying cash. I can do better ordering online. So, wouldn't you know that this year ...

Re: Edison Fly Fishing Show Jan. 23-25

Well, that was an interesting Show. Friday had a very strong turnout all day. Vendors were talking among themselves starting Thursday evening when we were all setting up about what to do with the snowstorm headed our way. By Saturday morning, a few booths crashed their stuff and left. There was a de...

Great footage. I only have time for about a third of it, so will watch the rest later.

Re: new 2026 trout stocking-fish limit

Makes sense, even in Monmouth county streams, if we had a cool spring and moderate June into July, the Brookies would spread out and hold for a surprisingly long time. Not sure any held over throughout the entire summer except perhaps near the spring seeps in the Manasquan. A couple of guys talked ...

Re: new 2026 trout stocking-fish limit

I don't exactly see how reducing the creel limit address the perception of shooting fish in a barrel when water is low, but hey, I guess it's something. We down here in dixie don't have to worry about that since the cormorants take most of the trout. Lol, I struggled with that as well. Read it twic...

Re: Smoked Trout opinions and recipes

I can't say I have only one single recipe, it all depends on what taste I'm after. I start with a brine soaking first, then allow the fish once brined to form a film over the fillets as the brine dries on it before I put them in the smoker. And I always use gentle woods like apple or alder over more...

Re: Elimination of pre-season closures for 2026?

I know there was a proposal floated out there in August about eliminating the closed March>opening day period. Does anyone know if this is fully adopted and in play for 2026? I don't think that made it but I believe the creel limit reduction from 4 to 2 after June 1st did get in. That I happen to k...

Stop by and visit me at the Native Fish Coalition booth if you go to the show. Over the decades, I have both worked it and attended it, and it is always great to see old friends. Hope to see some of you there. Will you be preaching the gospel of fallfish over wild brown trout? Always! Unless I'm in...

I can ask. Last I heard it wasn't being changed. But they are stocked fish and I stopped caring long ago unfortunately.

Sight fishing for redfish?

Looking at a lodge in Texas currently for a sight fishing on the fly for reds with a couple of buddies. https://www.bayflatslodge.com/ Curious if anyone here has done a similar trip and where you fished and how you liked it? Being a hunter and angler, sight fishing has always been my favorite pursui...
