Re: March Browns?

Thanks everyone. I'm learning and appreciate the insights. Mid May already...I hope everyone makes the most of it. There's an article in this month's TU magazine and one idea I found interesting is how newer anglers are less interested in dry flies as euronymophing catches fish (I'll save what this...

Re: March Browns?

There were a fair amount of the bigger sulphurs hatching last night on the mighty rockaway and a smaller, darker mayfly that was too small to be a march brown (probably size 16-18). BUT the stupid rainbows weren't of any interest in soft hackles or wet flies, let alone feeding on top. :(. I couldn'...

Re: DWGNRA road closure this summer

And to think there is a huge push to turn this area into a full fledged National Park and there they are finally repairing roads damaged initially by Hurricane Irene, a full 19 years ago now. Talk about a cluster F, imagine if they pushed even more millions through a NP without the infrastructure in...

Re: big flatbrook CFS

The Flatbrook is running 183 cfs this morning which is slightly above norms for today's flows, but very fishable for certain.

Thanks guys. I know what you're referring to, never thought of them as islands being so small, although technically they are.
Get ready for more river geek: those are called medial bars. An island by any other name. :geek:

Re: big flatbrook CFS

Hi Rusty, When I fished the Flat. no hatches but did see a few caddis flying around also saw two large stoneflies in the air and no clue what color they were. They were probably one inch long and clumsy flying…Went to the Wanaque today and did zip. Had one hit and missed him or her. Wanaque is stil...

Re: big flatbrook CFS

Ahhh, the Wanaque. That was the stream I cut my fly fishing teeth on, unfortunately on the stretch that now lies beneath the Monksville Reservoir. The surrounding woods were filled with grouse too, and I never saw many other guys out there during either persuit. Now that I am far to the south, my r...

Re: big flatbrook CFS

Is there an island in the BFB? - "Start at the bottom of the Island and work your way down". Parts of the Flatbrook are an anastomose system which is a big fancy term for braided channels with "islands" between them. Common where there is heavy beaver activity combined with elevation changes where ...

All time high for the Toms today. A lot of them on the map.
It wasn't even close to an all time high just so you know. In fact, there were two higher flow events on the Toms this year alone (Jan. and early March) let alone others over the years.

Re: musconetcong gorge

Hello Rusty, Just read your comment about the gorge and you are right except you said in our life time. Heck, Rusty maybe in your life time but mine I don’t think so. I am now pushing 88 and now it is all down hill. So all you youngsters out there enjoy the gorge when the dam finally comes down but...

Re: musconetcong gorge

I have fished the Musky George many of times in the past. I fished it last in November 2023. I used to legally access just signing in @ the guard shack. Also used to have a pass to access the trail on that side to fish. But its all be rescinded in the last 3 years. When I fished it in November I tr...

Re: & another biting the dust soon !!!

This has guys all up in arms on Facebook's NJ Trout Fishing page. Claim it's a fly fishing conspiracy (TU) to get the state to end stocking in that area so that it can be wild brook trout only. Also claim opening up the river will allow snakeheads, flatheads, and stripers to have run of the river a...
