Re: Game Warden in action

Fishing in Yellowstone backcountry, Grebe Lake, out of the tree's walks a anger, asks to see my Yellowstone license and I point to it on my vest. Out of habit I used the vinyl pin on thingy. His response was, "What a great idea, we should do that here". I guess the grass is always greener... :mrgre...

Re: What's hatching on your streams?

I am off next week and should be out Monday or tuesday. i was going to ask what is going on but it sounds like i got my answer. Joe, I've been seeing Hendricksons on PA and NY streams. I have not fished for trout in NJ since '23 myself. It's getting harder and harder to catch stocked trout (in any ...

Random question. Is a picture of the front and back of a license on one's phone legal?
No, not for NJ currently. But many states that is okay.

Re: What's hatching on your streams?

I was out yesterday on the Musky hoping for some top water action. Went down to Hampton. The water was a little higher than I thought it would be. Lots of caddis on the water but nothing rising or splashing. Made a move to Mansfield. Nothing hatching! I did manage a half dozen or so on nymphs but i...

Went out this morning, plenty of Trout, no bugs.
It should happen the next few days, possibly this afternoon for starters. Temps mostly over 50 in the daytime finally.

Re: What's hatching on your streams?

I haven't been out since Monday evening nor have I been near a river during the daylight hours since then. So I've seen zero bugs. Good to know the hendricksons have started popping though. Normally, once the Hendricksons start, they don't stop until they are done. This is one of those years where ...

What's hatching on your streams?

Got out yesterday on the Pequannock (not fishing, just a late lunch along the river). There were the occasional Hendrickson coming off and a bunch of BWOs along with varied caddis and plenty of midges. I saw two rises were all, but it was cold and they were likely feeding below the surface. This col...

Re: Any one fishing

I wonder if that dam will ever be taken down :?: I am actually thinking about fishing up there above the dam. I got a raft last year and am thinking about doing some exploring up there. There used to be tons and tons of pickeral back there, i assume there is quite a bit of bass as well. Plenty of b...

Not likely as it is a State Park and that dam is integral to that Park.

Re: another 1 going down on the SBR

yes Thought I recognized it. I did the budgeting for removal for USFWS and the watershed org several years ago as they were getting Superfund settlement monies for the removal at the time. I do know there was a land preservation that happened first and now the dam can come down. you guys going to d...

Re: Any one fishing

There are usually some holdovers from the fall stocking to be caught . But with the severe low water this fall and brutal winter temps I guess there weren't as many as in years past. True, but so few holdovers that I would strongly recommend not fishing upstream of Penwell after the summer months f...

Re: Any one fishing

I tried the Musky in Hackettstown yesterday. No fish for me ,but the only other guy I saw had one on a stringer. Fished for about an hour and the wind never really stopped so I left. The highlight of the day was being checked by a CO in the parking lot. Real nice younger guy and we talked for about...

Re: Any one fishing

I am back in NJ for a few days and may check out our VCB tomorrow with my brother and daughter..I have always loved the stream but havent fished it in over 10 years, maybe more. Is the road open? Are there still all 3 species? I have some very fond memories from there decades ago. All three species...

Re: Any one fishing

I saw a few rising wild brown in McMichael Creek in PA when we were removing an old culvert earlier this week. LBS, both brown and black, were fluttering around each afternoon. Mayflies won't be too far off on that stream. While I wasn't fishing, I watched my one client land 7 browns in a few short ...

Yes, on the Broadhead. They should be popping all over on warm days including here in NJ.

Anyone fishing the hard water?

I have only been ice fishing once this winter due to a three week long project in Hunterdon that is now over. Going to hit a buddy's 2 acre trout and bass pond on Saturday. I have helped him sink about 7 Christmas trees for crappies, sunk five 15 or 20 gallon drums with half of the top cut out for c...
