Re: Shad season

I fished from a buddy's boat in the Delaware yesterday and went 11 for 17 on shad. Not a hot bite, but most got skunked, so I was happy. A few roe, but mostly bucks.

Re: Hendrickson's?

Due to knee surgery recently, I haven't been trout fishing yet. But the shop (Shannon's) tells me the Hendricksons so far have been spotty. Good today, gone tomorrow, then back later in the week. But seems the caddis are busting wide open and some March browns are in the mix as well. I fished the De...

Re: It was WORK & was worth it

MikeB, that fly is a zug bug. But don't assume it is a special fly as we are fishing for fresh stocked rainbows, the easiest of all trout to catch. Stocked bows eat nearly anything right now. In time, they will learn to eat aquatic insects. For now, the flash in the peacock herl on a zug bug is all ...

Re: I'm officially a chest guy

The single best thing to happen to me in the last 49 I've been fly fishing was to lose my vest and go chest pack. It's - for me at least - a quantum leap forward over the vest and I will never even remotely consider going back. I can think of no downsides and only upsides to making the switch. Your ...

Re: Washing Out Wader Stink

...So much for wasting money on products to clean those stinking waders... Thanks for the responses--even if they are tongue-in-cheek ones. Just wash them like you would any of your other clothes. Most anglers have no idea that they are SUPPOSED to wash their breathable waders because it keeps the ...

Re: Pequannock newark watershed stretch

Grew up fishing all of that water, but did so most likely while trespassing on my bicycle back in the day. Nobody ever bothered us. But in those days, anglers just pulled over on the southbound shoulder to park and fish. Now, that will get you a ticket from the WM or Kinnelon cops.

Re: Questions about Wild Brookie Streams (Dunnfield, Trout Brook, etc.)

NJ has more than 2,000 streams that hold native brook trout, so finding them is not an issue. As martalus mentioned, the brookies tend to be small and live in smaller streams for the most part. Walking along one of these streams standing roughly 6 foot tall, you are going to pretty much spook every ...

My buddy who wins lots of fishig tourneys has already been doing well to okay in the Lambertville area, and I know another buddy that has already been into some fish as high up as Poxono in the big D.

Re: First time fly fishing

I believe every fly you have will catch fish right now.....Worry about bugs and their lifecycle and spooking fish. They eat easier when they are comfortable. Most of all.have fun and be prepared to tie lots of knots and keep yer tippet fresh! Ditto on what lightenup says here. also, don't forget a ...

Re: Private/club water on lower Pohat

Not much decent water in there due to the upstream farmer farming way too close to the river and losing massive amounts of banks into the stream every year. That and it backs up whenever the Delaware floods since the club was on the last two properties on that river above where it enters the Delawar...

It wasn't Fred Burroughs chapter. I won't say here as it was more than 10 years ago....you know these people well Rusty. Yes Federal (my bad) park Rangers agreeed to come along as there were many unsavory people around Vam Campen then. Especially the Glen. The Feds played along TU wouldn't and when...

Re: Van Campens restoration project.

I tried to get a New Jersey chapter of TU many years ago to do a stream clean-up. I got the State park rangers to agree to come along and help. I was told that TU doesn't play well with the State Parks and that it wasn't their area...well at that time no one had that area then. I told them to enjoy...

Re: Shad season

Its right around the corner. I ordered/received a bunch of shad darts and shad spoons in February just to be sure that I had them in time of this year's shad run-last year a lot of these items were back-ordered in April as everyone was scrambling to buy them all at once. I found fishing a 1/16 oz s...

Re: Montana brown

I'm not familiar with the area, but is it a possibility that the fish swam up from a lake into the river? Perhaps that means it could have been stocked large and grown larger. That fish looks like it feed off pellets and fish shit. Like the giants in New Zealand that sit down stream from the salmon...

Thank you Brian.

The Gorge and FB No-Kill stretches; do they remain open to fishing year round or closed from 3/15 thru 4/1 ?
Yes, of course. No changes at all to TCAs or No-Kills.

Anyone know the stocking dates, protocol for this coming season and associated rules? I assume the C&R only stretches remain open regardless. Here is what we learned last week that I posted on another hunting forum..... Looks like I even beat the Division's press release this time. Hot off the pres...
