Re: Has anyone noticed a change from wild brookies to browns?
I'm all for C&R for browns or have a minimum size limit of 16" if you must. They are by far my favorite trout and if they are doing well with natural reproduction, let's protect them.

Re: LV/Flanders area SBRR
There was nothing but farms and woodland in the upper drainage, no developments or paved shopping areas. So, I'm sure there was a much higher summer flow of cool spring waters and lower stream temp. with more constant flows. I doubt anyone even fished for these tiny brookies. I never caught any brow...

Holy Water ! Should have fished it when I found it 55 years ago ! Pools of native Brookies like some places in Canada. Oh well, memories.

Re: Passaic River
I'm sure the temp. would be quite a bit lower a mile or so upstream. That pond 1/2 mile up has to raise the temp quite a bit.

Re: Passaic River
But it's a nice net, that I won't have a heart attack if it's lost. Back to basics and a simpler form of fishing. Received mine yesterday, should have ordered two, just in case. Thanks again. That's a bear crossing area right there BTW. One was hit on the south bounds side a few years ago, and a tro...

Re: India Brook mischeif
I have seen some truly epic bs as I tend to ignore posted signs(a stream cannot be owned IMO. I will argue that anytime) Stream channel diversion is common as it cutting away streamside vegetation and some serious dam building. Mark, It's good to see that at least some reasonable remediation was don...

Re: Flows
Good luck on the main stem and be safe. It was super high by Rt 22 in North Branch at 3 pm. and South Branch by Flemington was unfishable when I went by it at 2:30. I can't believe it will be fishable or safe down there. Think safety.

Re: Natirar smallmouth fishing
There used to be nice Smallmouths in that water all summer, 12 - 14" and saw a real nice Brown once. I also caught my personal best Smallmouth in the pool at the base of that Dam, about 4 lbs. Of course this was when I was 14 and it was still the Ladd estate. We would sneak in there and what would t...

Re: Raritan river videos:
Bill, Thanks for the videos, they were some really great fish there. That was a local secret for many years, few had any idea that it existed. Few even fished for them or had a clue of their existence 40+ years ago.

Re: Opening Day with Joe Brooks
Brian, Yup, you were born the year I graduated High School. As hard as I try, I can find nothing to document that Opening Day. I was sure that there would be a photo of him in the Freshwater Fisheries building in Lebanon, but nothing there to document it. I guess the only way would be to research th...

Re: Opening Day with Joe Brooks
No one even replied, Joe Brooks, Who's He? Guess I'm the only old guy on here and he was my idol. I read every article that he wrote for Field & Stream and how I got into fly fishing. Since my father had no interest in the outdoors or fishing and until I had a drivers license, I would beg anyone I k...

Opening Day with Joe Brooks
Every year when Opening Day is upon us, I wonder how many people who watched the Wide World of Sports remember Joe Brooks visiting NJ on Opening Day. Jack

Re: Changes to NJ trout season about to be announced
Fished the Passaic by one of the stocking points briefly last year, as I have to cross it when going to work. This brief encounter was my first and last time to every fish that part of the river. I decided that if that's what I would have to resort to call trout fishing, I would switch to being a Ba...

Re: India Brook mischeif
Brian, I hope this gets better results than i received from the DEP on that wts in Oldwick, where the exact same thing was done to supply water to a farm pond. Stream was damned, water almost entirely diverted, and nothing was done. I spent hours and documented everything with photographs and made c...
