Re: Big Flatbrook No Kill section

The amount of Hemlock loss is astonishing in some areas , it will take years for the canopy to heal and protect those small streams in that area from direct sun again . Centuries, not just years. The hemlock wooly adelgid did a number on our healthy trees and add wind events and it's been tough on ...

Re: Big Flatbrook No Kill section

Yup the flatbrook out of our major rivers recedes the fastest after a heavy rain , and gets low quick . Totally agree Cappy look at the streams local to it , they all have a good head of wild browns , you would think that the Flatbrook would be the same . But at least it has those wild brookies.

If there's a blizzard approaching it must be that someone from NJ is going to Montana

Re: Ok I jinxed it the weather is gross

The weather is gross , the streams are probably at theyer lowest point of the year , but all in all I think the NJ trout streams made it through the summer ok , not as good as last year but ok . Re: Flying Ants

Red Ant /Cinnamon Ants seem to be on the menu lately , I use just a simple fur body, a turn of Hackle and a piece of medallion sheeting , or a stiff cellophane tied in down wing style .
Best full on hatch I've ever seen in the KLG is red flying ants .

Re: Wader recomendations

How many times a year do you fish ? Cause I don't care what the brand is if you use them over 30xs a year , they ain't lasting for long , that goes for Simms too . Like everything else in our society now this is just a disposable item . I drop $150 a year and it's the price of doing business . You w...

Ok it's cool enough , we can officially talk about trout again

Cooler Temps looks like the rivers are within range at least part of the day . Interesting time of year to hit our trout waters , ISO's are about , terrestrial's and fall Olives not far behind . And someone had to post something .

Re: Fly storage

Try Michael's, Walmart or Hobby lobby normally have decent boxes that are deep and won't crush hackle , I think in the beading section ... There are a few mega guide boxes you can buy and fill but it's kind of a waste. You could just sink them into large sheets of foam , but something bad is bound t...

Re: Traveling with Fly Fishing Gear

I carry my rods, reels get checked in my suitcase and packed between clothing..DO NOT carry a vise on with you as it will be seized and thrown out.I watched it happen to a good friend. It was just the head too, not the base. The only thing I have ever had broken was a net that was in my suitcase......

Send it UPS store to UPS store, and yes there's a UPS store right in Jackson Hole . I think alot of people do this and it's one less thing to worry about when your going through airports . Just call the ups store in Jackson and let them it's coming and to hold it for you . You can insure it , it's g...

There are alot of fish in the Esopus , go visit the local fly shop Esopus Creel and ask him where to fish and what flies ... Lots of ISO's , on the Esopus , tie some nymphs and a few dries and don't be afraid to fish the fast water , if you see white water that's deeper than your knee fish it . That...

Thieves in KLG

Heard about an incident recently where a friend left his pack on the hood of his truck , to look at the water in the lower KLG , walking a minute or 2 away , and on his return finding it gone . I know there's alot of second guessing that could go on , but the the bottom line is Don't Take Shit that ...

Re: NJ Stockies

Fish an articulated streamer like a Sex Dungeon or Drunk & Disorderly which have stinger hooks on the back and your short strike issue nearly disappears for good. I find a lot of NJ anglers fish nothing larger than a size 10 woolly bugger, but don't be afraid to toss a much larger streamer here loc...
