down here the stripers are in the backbays (boat only for the most part) in the fall, the migrators are out front 1 mile + off the beach. Surf guys get almost none of the migrators.
if you put your time on the rivers finding spots, there are stripers to be had.

Re: White Perch
well that's nice
I've not caught a white perch on a flyrod, down here they seem to be in deeper holes accessible only by boat.

Looks good.
Haven't been winter fishing in a while, down here in atlantic county, not much in fw, there is some bank fishing for white perch, but few wade out.

Thanks... I retired and no longer go by that area. Perhaps one days I'll explore Kirby Mills or other areas nearby.

I was trying for my last trout of 2021 (would have been my first as well), last week in December during our warm spell but it wasn't to be. Just a panfish.

Re: Cicadas--the 'filet mignon' for fish?
The biggest hoax in the world put on us by fly fishing magazines is that the cicada hatch will be important. Every 7 o 10 years, there is supposed to be a super emergence as there is this year, so fly mags run stories of huge trout caught on foam cicadas. And they add the obligatory tying instructi...

Re: Public Meeting on Trout Stocking Program February 29
If I remember correctly the State stocked some fingerling rainbows in the lower end of Hockhocson Brook in an effort to create a steelhead run in the Navesink River, and as far as I know it met the same fate as the Toms and Manasquan experiments. You are correct. There was an older attempt at this,...

To answer Johnw questions on returning Brook Trout. Here a few photos of Brook Trout caught from the Raritan river (save the mishandling comments please) when the State was stocking Brook Trout upriver. These trout were caught near the fish ladder in Bound Brook, not far from the tideline in New Br...

Re: Public Meeting on Trout Stocking Program February 29
Don't know either the little J nor really the Musky all that well, but every river has a carrying capacity that limits how many fish it can sustain. The advantage of fingerlings is just that you can stock so many, however, the river conditions still have to support their ability to survive to adulth...

Re: Still stripers in the surf
down in dixie, the big stripers made a very brief appearance in the surf, as is their habit the last 10 years or so. then it's been shorts both by surf and boat, think the surf shorts finally slowed to a near halt recently. for me, I finished the year throwing some live minnows at a local lake and p...
