Re: March Flytying Madness This Sunday 03/24 at the Pequest

How late does this go? Can we just show up with a vise? Bring materials or are they already there? I may have an hour or two in the afternoon. It goes to 3ish but you don't have to stay the whole time, bring your vise some materials whip up some flies and leave when you want , even is you wanna jus...

Re: Sink Tip Fly Line

Also depends on your streamer , is it weighted , then you probably don't need a sink tip , but unweighted streamers a sinktip may be great .... I see both options unweighted streamers will move natural , and can be stripped in slower using a sinktip... While a weighted streamer , you may have to re...

Re: SBRR the premier trout stream?

How the heck do I create a URL out of my photo pf the KLG fish I want to post..It was a nice wild brown, so Yes, The SBR is the premier medium sized wild trout fishery in NJ, just in my limited experience. It used to be better, but it still holds them. IMG_20190318_150131_828 You can see it on NEFF...

Re: Gorge stocking

I was there yesterday...maybe 5 guys fishing the whole thing. The Gorge is a got to for me as it if 5 minutes from my house, and if you need a confidence boost, don't fish there off season as those fish get pounded and become a bit persnickety..so yes, small nymphs. As far as stocking down there yet...

Re: Stocking

They have been feeding them(salmon)dyed pellets for years and years, the farm raised trout I buy looks just like stocked bows from NJ, but it is raised in Idaho..that's an immersion circulator, but not sure about your methods of sealing the fish in plastic. Sous Vide is excellent for fish also. Alm...

Re: Raritan river 3/9/19:

I caught a few nice brook trout on the fly several years ago in that lake, but you need to watch your back cast with all the people on the jogging path-The best spot was in a little channel by the island. Watch your cast, I say put on a Michigan Cricket and let the back cast fly!!! ;) Jk of course!!!

Re: Stocking

What is the retail price differential these days for wild salmon versus farm raised? Am moving back to the states this summer and have to prepare myself for the prices! Wild caught fish is about 50% more expensive then farm raised. The farm raised breeders have been getting slick in presentation. A...

Re: Stocking

Wild salmon, they will catch at sea, but most is "refreshed", a fancy word for thawed frozen fish... Nothing wrong with "refreshed"= flash frozen 8-) . Amazing things about technology today ;) . cant feel or taste the difference It cooks a bit differently. It cooks and dries out quicker. If you jus...

Re: Stocking

I can't speak for Whole Foods, but my Shop Rite always carries both farm raised salmon (Atlantic salmon, often raised around the world) and wild caught salmon, typically from Alaska. You pay more for the wild caught and most people prefer the fattier flesh of the farm (pen) raised salmon, so it is ...

Just as well purchase some wild caught salmon from Whole foods. Can't wait. More people on the water and all of the nice sized holders end up on a stringer. I'm going to go get me a fall stocker holdover this weekend. 6 months in the river on natural food should make them better table fare. Just as well purchase some wild caught salmon from Whole foods. Besides Im a 100% C&R person anyway. The only way that I would take a stockie if they somehow die :( . Then I wou...
