Re: BFB - No kill Zone trip 11/20

Cappy - Cant say for sure it was.. If it was only 6", it was a wild brookie or brown. State doesn't stock anywhere near that small a size of rainbow. Unless it was one of the hatchery's famous "sunbows" By that, I mean some of the genetic mutants that survive to be stocked that look more like...

Re: BFB - No kill Zone trip 11/20

Would love to give you guys a good report.......only thing I saw was a 6" dead trout and wanted to pull it from the river to look for the transmitter. Couldn't get to it enough and was not risking slipping into the cold water. Second, saw a sign that labeled the area a "No Black Bear Hunting Area" ...

Re: Big Flatbrook 11/1

I don't mind the no-kill part as I don't keep anything, that is good idea or possibly limit the take to two fish, but it was much better as a fly-fishing only stretch. I personally saw less fisherman, gets hammered early season by spin fisherman and I doubt they are all following the new hook restri...

When worm containers and power bait jars abound in the new regulation stretch YOU DO THE MATH. It was much better as fly only the new regulation is a MAJOR MISTAKE...Hate all YOU WANT
I agree 100%

Nice fish thanks for the pics. Upstate NY?

I hit a local WTS, caught two browns; nothing close to that size...LOL
Nope, these are Jersey trout! I'm guessing the browns were from a private club stocking that made their way into public water.
See it now, yep private club.

Rusty - Do you know if the Flatbrook ever had a native brook trout population, or any and all trout were introduced?

Re: Big Flatbrook 11/1

I fished the no-kill stretch last week, not a bite. Ran into two fisherman that fished a really long stretch, when I asked how they were doing, one said just OK but didn't sound very happy. Outside of the Spring stocking season the Flatbrook disappoints. On the surface it should be a top holdover an...

Rusty...Would agree, fisherman should refrain from fishing WTS's where spawning occurs for a couple months?

Re: anyone getting out?

Against my better judgement hit a small WTS after the rain stopped, figured the larger streams were completely blown out. Lower section blown out and color of milk chocolate, went upstream about 1.5 miles, little better with flows still chocolate in color.

Re: WTS surprise tenant

Eel is one of my favorite fish to eat. Cut into 4" sections, split down the length of the belly, add a little kosher salt and grill it slow until the skin gets crispy and the flesh tender. Skin is the best part, but it MUST be crispy all the way through. Serve with a classic Italian tomato salad and...

Re: Return to a favorite...Van Campens 8/5

Thank you for the post and pictures, epic day on the stream for sure. I can't imagine with the states limited resources they would do anything on their own to improve the banks, best case would be if a TU initiative was implemented with support from the state.

Streams Blown Out from Rain?

Anyone live near a trout stream? Wondering if this rain has them blown out.
