Trout Netting Replacement

Happy New Year Gents. Does anyone know someone in North Jersey who could customize size and install a soft nylon netting for a small brookie net. I've had this net for nearly 30 years and need new netting installed. It's a small net and none of the available pre-made netting will fit, plus I don't w...

Re: Final 2019 Trout and First on a New Rod

Congrats on the new rod and breaking the ice with it. I was out the day before, caught a few brookies and one brown, all on a wet fly.

We done.

Nothing wrong with a worm fly. Every stream has aquatic worms, and land based worms enter the stream after a rain.

nice trout-wild or clubfish?
Nice trout regardless. The first pic looks to be wild. Last pic looks for sure wild. Second pic and Rainbow stocked fish. I assume somewhere on the SBR.

Takes a long time to get Federal $$$ Not sure how solar panels stop bird poop, but whatever. Those are some CHOICE 15 inch Land Locked Salmon reared and stocked by the Division though !
I believe they are trying to kill two birds with one stone. Cover the runs and lower operating costs.

Re: Backing

Pike won't take you into the backing, no need to purchase high end, basically a spool filler. I use the least expensive Cabelas brand.

Re: Nice wild brown...

Nice catch for Jersey waters, well done. I'm staying off the WTS's until mid-Nov. Let the fish do their thing in peace. I'd be more worried about herons & mergansers making easy pickings of trout in shallow water than anglers fishing. One flock of 6-10 mergansers can kill more fish in a day than an...

Stocked fish in the mean time, which has not been bad they put in some large healthy Rainbows.

Re: Big Flatbrook No Kill section

I fished it Friday, caught a few with nymphs. It's a shame how few wild fish swim that river. On paper it should be an excellent wild Brown Trout stream.

Did you catch them on top?

Curious as I fish that stream occasionally and don't recall ever seeing the old bridge abutments. Where is this in relation to the falls.

Stream Assessments

Anyone know how often the state assesses/surveys, and publishes findings on the health of wild trout streams? I believe the last one was in 2015?
