Re: purty brookie
It's almost spawning time, so they look amazing right now! Nice picture. I've been a deer hunting fool this fall. No fishing for me for a long time now. Too many big bucks in the woods this year.

Re: Fished the Musky in Hackettstown area
Nice. I was on the Musky yesterday, could not find a fish. Remember that sections like Point Mountain TCA were not stocked this year except from the upper Penwell bridge due to Covid. Same for all the transfer truck stocking locations on that river that we stock each Friday in spring and again in f...

Re: so angry at myself- wild brown
as I have mentioned, I live on the Lamington Rvr in Pottersville, and since being here, have lamented over the poor fishing I have found from the down to almost I-78. I have caught a few, but they were always obviously club fish, and this was after the restoration project of last year. Being it is ...

Re: Very large native brookies-video
I'll throw out a guess and mention a stream only because its mostly public and very well known. Sorta looks like the Black River to me but I've never caught browns or brookies that looked like that in there so perhaps it was filmed below Hacklebarney on the private club section. That is much smalle...

Re: Very large native brookies-video
I am puzzled by it as I have never seen a stream like that or brookies like that. Also the browns looked different that I am used to. Also was that a stocked rainbow or a wild one? The kid said that was his first time fly fishing-looks like he is hooked now after a 90 minutes of fishing like that! ...

Re: Shenandoah River
I’ll be heading down to the south fork of the Shenandoah for the first week of October. Wondering if the smallies will still be active enough for poppers, or should I be thinking clousers and crayfish patterns? Has anybody fish down there this time of year? Give Bryan at the fly shop a call and ask...

Re: oriental bittersweet
Many landowners attempt to control Celastrus or oriental bittersweet all over the state. It's a problem not just along rivers, and it is killing native trees left and right when left unchecked. Yet another of hundreds of invasive plants and animals that now call our area home. I just left a small fa...

Re: quick trip to Hancock NY today
Nice bow. McCloud refers to the strain of rainbow as they are from the McCloud River in California originally and are more pure than the rainbows in the McCloud River today after CA stocked over their strains. The green you saw is the last of the bottom release water after a long, hot summer coming ...

Re: Cooler temps
I climbed in my deer stand at 3pm yesterday and it was in the upper 60s. By the time I climbed down at dark, it was 51. By the time I reached my truck it was down to 49. Fall is here!

Re: Cooler temps
It was 42 here this morning in the Budd Lake SBR headwaters area. Upper 30s coming later this week at night. River temps are all fine, but we have low water still. Not good as we get closer to spawning season, but we still have time for rain. I've been saying to anyone that will listen that the KLG ...

Re: Cooler temps
I may be able to fish Sunday or Monday. Are there any fish left alive in the Califon area of the SBR? Haven't been out since early June. It was a brutal summer. Temps look good for the next week though. Good times!!! I know Solitude Club saw 78 degrees several times and had some dead trout. My gues...

Re: Fall 2020 trout Stocking?
Thanks Rusty, that sounds fun! How are flows up in NJ now? I tried to fish the headwater section of a stream in the Catoctin mountains of Maryland on Sunday, but there was very little water so I decided not to bother the native brook trout there. I did fish another stream further down towards to th...

Re: Lamington/NBRR Smallies - biggest seen?
Unfortunately, the Lamington suffers mightily from man's interference, leaving it both a poor trout and smallie fishery. The Kay Dam that Morris County Parks owns is a large contributor to the problem, at least for trout. Further down the Black when it becomes the Lamington, it suffers from current...

Re: Fall 2020 trout Stocking?
This year for me became a year of fishing "firsts" for me. I made the decision early on in the pandemic to pursue species I normally don't. The upper Delaware was "closed" by request of folks I know and respect, so I stayed away from my beloved West Branch for most of the spring. Instead, I targete...
