Re: Wild Brook trout
With the high water levels I hit a wild brook trout stream that's on state land in search of fish. Had a ball catching a half dozen 7"-8" wild................fall fish! Not a brookie to be found where I used to catch quite a few, they've been replace by the fall fish. I strongly suspect that someth...

Re: Maine North Woods next week
Im going up to east side of Seneca Lake for rifle season. Ive got several friends that live around Burdett and Watkins Glen that have a lot of property. Nice. We have a 185 acre farm on one side of route 16 in New Lisbon/Garrattsville and a new 112 acre farm with standing corn, a trout stream, seve...

Re: Maine North Woods next week
we saw two... the guys in the cabin next to us bagged a few, but they had pointers. Just back from my upstate NY bow and small game trip. Lots of woodcock, but rabbits and grouse populations were fairly low for us. We flew grouse, but nobody got a good shot on one. I didn't get any shots at grouse ...

Re: Thank Shannons :
While I say a big thank you to Shannons for this. I think the timing of the stocking is poor. They should have waited until November after every googan with a stringer stops fishing until the spring and then stock the fish. These are nice fish that would hold nicely all winter but alot go into buck...

Re: Maine North Woods next week
Too bad it was a down cycle year for grouse. They are my favorite small game to pursue, hands down! At least the fish cooperated. Any woodcock? we saw two... the guys in the cabin next to us bagged a few, but they had pointers. Just back from my upstate NY bow and small game trip. Lots of woodcock,...

Re: Golfing
Downstream needs work. Lots of trees down and shallow water. As in the horse farm below the bridge or on Fiddler's stretch? The horse farm is a mess, and the owner is someone I wouldn't work for. I've dealt with him in the past. He's got the farm up for sale. After paying $2 million for it, he aske...

Re: Golfing
Fiddler's Elbow CC is my guess. Was there late last week looking at some recent widening of the river following Henri and Ida. May do some more work there as a result. Downstream needs work. I'd rather fry up the pellets they are fed with than eat a stocked trout.

Re: Streams have been completely changed..
The brand new retaining wall next to Hunt Place in Glen Gardner is destroyed... Where the quarry did their SEP (Secondary Environmental Project)? The small park in Glen Gardner? Yup.. The one we were speaking about last fall...it bowed a bit outwards in the middle and that is where it failed... I s...

Re: Streams have been completely changed..
That link worked as does your VC link. Thanks for sharing. I'll post video from the lower Lopat shortly, but I don't have Ida video but rather Henri video. Ida was worse, but I wasn't there that night to film it.NJAngler wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 3:25 pmTry this link to see photos

Re: PA Hemlock decline
Yup, old story since hemlock wooly adelgids have been here for a couple of decades now, but their damage continues. But there may be a silver lining. Places like Sparta Glen which was ground zero for the infestation are seeing new hemlocks growing in the forest and the wooly adelgids either gone or ...

Re: Streams have been completely changed..
I got a call from a landowner adjacent to a section of the Capoolong we restored for the Division several years ago. The river widened itself by up to 20'. That is amazing for a river that averages maybe 20' at its widest. Ida is now the flood of record for many watersheds here in trout country, NJ...

Re: Rain doing any good?
5.2" of rain from Henri so far and still drizzling here in Flanders in NW part of the state. I'm watching the wrap around effect and we may get more bands of heavier rains later, but too soon to say one way or the other. Luckily for my area, it wasn't a wind event as our ground is fairly saturated a...

Re: chest waders vs. pants
I'm not normal as I regularly wade up to my nipples to make long casts on bigger rivers, so I'm a chest wader guy all the way. But on a hot day when I'm not wading deep, they fold down to waist very easily.
