Re: Catfishing from the Bank

Hi, Fish Greenwood Lake. Rent or take your boat or whatever and bottom fish with a piece of hotdog on your hook. We did it this way back in the fifties. Either fish Jersey side or New York side doesn’t matter they are through out the lake and quite large. Vance

Re: Gunpowder River Maryland-tailwater fishery

I fished it years ago when my daughter lived in Md. I took Rt. 83 north for a few miles then cut towards the river. I for get the names of the road I took to the river. I actually fished it twice and both times never saw another person all day. It was in May that I fished it and caught a few on a ca...

Re: Nymph and Streamer Leader

Hi, Lightenup, I do the same. Go to Ramsey Outdoor and buy my leaders in 71/2 or 9 foot leaders then tie either 5x or 6x tippet to the leader and I still catch trout or sunfish or chubbs. I use a 30 inch or more tippet. Bill the mailman

Hello, Just a quick question. Fished the Ramapo last evening. Got there around 4:00 PM and the place was packed with cars at the Glen Grey bridge. So I waited around and finally started fishing around 6:30 or so and there was a hatch starting and the fish were feeding on top and by 7:30 or so they t...

Re: Is this your car on the WTS?

Hi, You do not have to have a front plate on your car now a days in Jersey. New cars do not need them. I hope that’s a standard shift with four on the floor with a 429 engine in it. I can see in the picture that his trunk lid is open so he had to be close by. Bill the mailman

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness

Hi, I always fish barbless because as the one person went to the emergency room I wound up at a doctors office with a treble hook in my thumb and it had a barb on the hook it was in so deep even the doctor had a hard time getting it out. Many times I have had a fly caught in the back of my neck bein...

Re: Fished a new stretch to me on the Ramapo River

Hey Troutman, I know where you were fishing. I started fishing that area back in 1954 when I got my drivers license that is a great area to fish. Walk through the woods an fish down to the bridge. This is the time to fish a Grayfox in the evening. About four years go I had that whole area to my self...

Re: upper wanaque

Hi, It’s funny when you talk about the Wanaque River. This is where I caught my first trout on a fly back in 1952 or 1953. I was 14 or 15 at the time fishing with my dad. I had a ratty looking fly on my patch of sheep skin and I saw some trout rising and taking flies off of the surface. So put on th...

Re: All state and county parks closed!

Hello, Is the Gorge part of the state or county park system? I have not left the house or my property for the last 30 days. I am now getting stir crazy. How much yard work can you do and how many flies can you tie in 30 days. A lot of flies that for sure. Just for some things to do I stripped all of...

Re: Dry fly floatant

Hi, One of the best floatants you can buy is at a drug store. It is Abolene that your mom put on your butt back in the 40’s or 50’s. Go to Walgreens or CVS and get the unscented. You can get a 14 ounce can for about 5 bucks and it will last you a life time. I started using it back in the 80’s. Just ...

Re: Dry fly fishing

Hello, The worst thing is on your back cast you realize that darn tree moved to catch your fly. The trout are bouncing all over the place and your fly is in a tree 10 feet up. What to do, pull until the tippet breaks and then by the time you get your line back minus a good portion of your tippet the...

Re: Trees, trees and moe trees....

Hi, How come when I’m fly fishing there are no trees around but as soon as the trout start to rise all the trees come down along the stream side and all you do is catch trees. Does anyone else have this problem? Everyone have a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year. Bill the mailman. PS. I have not caught...

Re: Long Beach Island With The Flyrod?

Hello, Go to the lighthouse and park in the parking lot. You want to fish to the right of the inlet and jetty. The water sweeps around the jetty and to the right down towards the beach. You will see what I’m talking about when you get there and start fishing. I caught my biggest bluefish there a few...
