Re: Fishing Emergers Question

I had a few free hours this week so I was able to hit one of my local rivers and found myself in an insane sulfur hatch just before dark. Trout were rising all around me so I tied on a dry that I thought matched the hatch but I was unable to get any to eat. I also saw some spinners on the water so ...

Re: never caught a trout so low on the main stem of raritan

A fish a stretch in the lower musky has the Kamloop strain that is stocked by the land owner. Very hard fighting bows compared to the pequest strain. NJ stock upstream from him. alot of the nj stocked trout comes down to his bend. I can tell the difference rite away when I have them hooked on what ...

Re: never caught a trout so low on the main stem of raritan

What you are looking at is a Kamloops club stocked rainbow. That explains the silver and small spots. I have a buddy that catches tons of trout in the Manville area and he knows the mainstem Raritan better than most. He mostly lands Pequest stockies, however. Adrew Still :?: No, his name is Mark.

Re: never caught a trout so low on the main stem of raritan

cool. thanks for the info. i never caught a kamloop so this was my first. great fighting, like i said i thought i had hooked into a shad. so what would be the nearest club that stocks these if i caught this one in manville? Hard to say. Private landowners also stock the rivers and not just clubs. T...

Re: SIMMS Waders for sale

Simms has a chart where you plug in your height, waist and foot size if I recall correctly and they size off those three things. I'm 6'1", but 235 with a 37" waist and size 10 feet, so that puts me in their Large King size. A large long is for guys over 6'3" or so if I recall. Good luck with the sale.

Re: upper delaware west branch 5-14-23

I will be up for a week later in May and into early June myself. This is the latest I have ever gone since college without fishing up there, but the flows just dropped to wadeable levels in the last few days.

Re: Thank You for 15 Years of GST!!

Ah yes, the Appletini night.... Thanks for keeping GST going. It's odd how other social media has taken over the fishing side of my life, but hunting remains largely forum oriented still. At least my mod duties here are a walk in the park. The odd picture that needs flipping or the occasional ...

“Her” first fish…. One of those green big mouth trout. :D Love it! The wife wouldnt let me have her hold it..... I have video of our daughter holding a big Pequest Education Pond rainbow in her arms with its tail slapping her in the face when she was maybe 7. I plan to show that during her we...

Re: water levels

Looks like the low water comments are invalid after this weekend! The rain gods have responded! Yup, and not too crazy up here in trout land so far. But round two more or less just started here in Flanders with a light, but steady rain. I just got my B week turkey permit, so I'm going to sit in the...

Re: Musky

Okay, I have to ask the obvious question. You're seeing caddis hatching and we know trout eat 99.999% of all caddis subsurface. So you choose to use a Prince nymph or pheasant tail and a zebra midge? Yes, you caught 8 or 10 trout, but now try swinging a LaFontaine or other caddis emerger at the ends...

Re: Caddis "dry flly"

Roy, for me the answer varies. If chasing native brookies in a small stream, the standard run of the mill tan elk hair dry is as good a fly as you can ask for. On bigger rivers when the trout are taking emerging caddis below the surface film, seldom. But I will try a spent wing caddis which is the e...

Re: Shad Season 2023

Is anyone getting out there for shad?? Share stories/pictures! It's still just a tad too cold water temp wise for steady action. Several friends have been fishing the Lambertville area and north of I-80 area and both have picked up the odd fish, but it has yet to break open. My guess is today on wi...

Re: Flies

I found Hendricksons and some Quill Gordons hatching on the SBR last Tuesday and fish were looking up. Went to the Musky for Saturday and while I didn't fish (manned the grill and taught from the bank), there was a good caddis emergence and fish were taking them below the film. Swinging a LaFontaine...

I played guide this friday afternoon. My buddy got 3 fish 1 rainbow and 2 browns. One was a nice size fish close to 18inches.

To be honest the delayed harvest area was not impressive at all lots of flat shallow water and only a few good pools
My firm is available for hire! :D
