Re: NJ Stockies
When I happen to be in the mood to swing streamers I like to toss black or grey weighted zonkers in sizes 6 and 4. Some guys think these are far too big for Jersey trout. I generally find I don't encounter much under 14 inches or so with these sizes and the strikes tend to be generally pretty vicio...

Re: NJ Stockies
Fish an articulated streamer like a Sex Dungeon or Drunk & Disorderly which have stinger hooks on the back and your short strike issue nearly disappears for good. I find a lot of NJ anglers fish nothing larger than a size 10 woolly bugger, but don't be afraid to toss a much larger streamer here loc...

Re: Columbia Dam removal
I thought the area including the parking lot was still closed? If anyone knows please confirm, I usually park there to fish the D for smallies but i'd prefer not to make the haul out there if I can't park. The whole area from Warrington Rd to Rt. 94 is still closed. Shame too, I've been dying to fi...

Re: Anyone Been Up to the Catskills?
We've had so much precip that both res's have been spilling for quite awhile now! Haven't checked the past couple of days, hopefully they've finally dropped below the dam crests.troutfishing4life wrote: ↑Wed May 01, 2019 3:22 pmRusty spinner and I floated the west branch last friday and did well but the water is HIGH!

Re: Brookies
During the very few times I've been out since the new year I have to agree with you Pat. It seems the return of good water for some time now has definitely had its expected positive impact on the wild pops. BTW, I didn't know you had moved down my way. How far south have you come? I am down in Barn...

Re: leaders - buy or diy
Personally I'm a big fan of the fine braided tapered leaders. For me they just simply turn over much more nicely.

Re: Who Wears A Vest?
I wear a vest when fly fishing but carry a creel when spin fishing. Old habits die hard. OMG... a creel... you are OLD AS DIRT Dave  A wicker creel brings back my oldest memories of fishing as my dad used one and would come home after opening day with his trout LOL! Yeah, I am getting up t...

Re: Spruce Run Creek stocking:
Spruce Run Creek has always been cyclical regarding the wild browns there. You are quite right that the upper areas have pretty much always held decent numbers of brookies, however until somewhat recently (within the past 10 years or so I believe) the majority of the water up there was strictly priv...

Re: Spruce Run Creek stocking:
Spruce Run Creek should not be stocked at all, it produces wild trout. Not in sufficient numbers to support a fishery. If it did or could it would have been removed from the stocking program long ago and added to the WTS list. Mulhockaway used to support a far greater wild brown population than Spr...

Unfortunately I won't be able to make the S. J. Forum this year. I did however make it to the North Jersey Forum back in Jan. so I was able to get caught up on things. The presentations will be as always quite interesting and informative. It was good to see you as always. You had to have that day's...

Re: Rhinehart Brook brown trout removal...
I've been fishing Tillmans over 37 years. One wild brown I remember. Turtle Corner Brook has produced fair number of wild browns for me over the years but its been in the decline for years. Its one of the few streams where stocking was discontinued but wild trout numbers dropped. I did not fish it ...

Re: Rhinehart Brook brown trout removal...
It is interesting to note that many of the Flat Brook tribs (Criss/Forked/Shawanni/Tillman/Stony Brooks/Bierskill) hold only brookies despite no barriers(in the lower end of these streams) to block them from moving up. They are mostly quite small which may also keep browns from establishing. Lower ...
