Re: Who Uses a Net?

I use a net fly fishing all the time unless I catch a wild trout which is to small for the net. I catch and release 100% of my trout and the net allows me to keep the fish in the water with as little trauma as possible.

Re: Fly storage

I use the multicompartment Plano boxes or equivalent which besides the stores noted are also carried by Dicks in their tackle section. I'm not a fan of Dicks but they do carry them. Some have uniform size compartments and some don't. I find that if I keep dry flies in my dry fly box the hackle gets ...

Re: Who Wears A Vest?

I haven't worn a vest in years. I use an Orvis waterproof sling pack. I agree with the prior comment that they are stiffer than non waterproof ones and the zipper is harder to pull. They are however completely water proof. I spilled a bottle of orange juice in mine and did not lose a drop. :D

Fished Point Mountain Friday and it has been stocked. A lot of 9-11 inchers but they did put some bigger fish in.

Re: Next on your purchase list

You did not give length or purpose nymph vs. dry or all around. Look at the Cortland Competition if you need a nymphing rod. I have had my eye on that one since I saw the winner of the one fly in 2017 use it. Shannons carries it if you want to check it out. About $250 if I remember correctly. Just b...

Re: TU March Madness Fly Tying Event - March 24th at Pequest

For those that have not attended previously, this is a great event and a fun day. You can tie whatever you want. All levels are welcome. The idea is to tie a lot of flies. I do two simple flies I can crank out quickly. The food is great and the raffles are a bonus with some really nice prizes. I hig...

I enjoyed the show again and said hello to friends. Got some info but did not have a need right now for more equipment. Next year I'm going to get a "Taxi" sign for my truck and charge $2 to take people to their cars.

Guides icing up

Looking at the weather forecast, it looks like we will have some days where we'll be fighting ice build up in our line guides. So far this winter it has not been a problem for me but I do try to go out on the warmer days. I post this just as a reminder to everyone that just like your rod's guides, a...

Re: South Branch Advise

"funny looking orange fish" That fish was a Palomino aka; Golden Trout. If you look at Shannon's web site video on the Bubba stocking, you see that they are putting in a few. They don't breed. Finicky so I don't target them however fish right around them because there is usually a rainbow or brown h...

Re: South Branch Advise

You can pretty much fish from the KLG upstream along River Road to Califon. There are some public pull off spots. At Califon, take Bank Street in Califon which runs along the ball fields and becomes Vernoy Road. There are plenty of spots there. Above the Vernoy Bridge there are posted areas although...

Re: Rhinehart Brook brown trout removal...

There is a natural barrier to brown trout migration into the Rhinehart area they are talking about. If I remember correctly there is a falls which was going to be further increased as a barrier by making the area just below more shallow so any fish trying to go upstream could not gain speed in order...
