Acadia NP

I have been to Acadia many, many times but was never aware of the opportunities for Brookies there. The Mar/Apr issue of Eastern Fly Fishing has an eye opening article  Will come in handy for our annual autumn trip.

Re: Guides icing up

Some ideas I used for keeping warm when I was young enough to ski, the key is keeping dry, once perspiration occurs its over; polypro liners for feet, medium weight wool socks. For fishing I use polypro gloves with finger tips cut off and wool mittens with the folding finger tops over them. If its w...

Re: Dam removal

The West Branch now runs free. From the Ausable River Association. They have now set their sites on the East Branch, long overdue for some restoration. "The West Branch Ausable River runs free! Over the past three weeks since our last video, Reale Construction has slowly removed sediment trapped by ...

Re: Toms River

Pat, if you'd like to have some fun now that the summer crowds are gone; tie up, or pick up, some small Clouser Minnows, needle nose pliers, crimp the barb and head to the bay. Barnegat has nice town beaches, or the outflow of the power plant on RT9. The snapper blues are everywhere.

Re: Toms River

Welcome to Ocean County. The Toms is always worth a trip, just be careful of the holes if wading and bring a pair of pruning shears for the brambles ;) Easiest place to start is the Riverwood Park parking lot and walk to the river, downstream a piece if your interested in the TCA. You also have the ...

Re: Idiot Governor Ignores Science, Bans Bear Hunting on State Land

Some folks think this is just the beginning of something more restrictive, a step on the ladder so to speak, in the efforts to control, or end entirely, firearm possession in the state. After all, what would Joe Average in NJ need a firearm for if there were no hunting? It sounds preposterous, until...

Re: Idiot Governor Ignores Science, Bans Bear Hunting on State Land

The DWGNRA will be crowded this bear season. If he keeps doing what he has been, then Mad Dog Murphy might just be a one term Gov and he'll retire to his estate in Germany or his villa in Italy. The farmer's in south Jersey won't take to having them relocated there, the deer are causing them enough ...

Re: Dam removal

Always good news! I dont think the Wilmington dam will ever be removed though. I need to get back up to that area! True enough, although there is a brand new RT86 bridge. Just need to convince those with Lake Everest waterfront they don't need a lake there. The Ausable River Assoc had a drone do a ...

I believe it is a $100,000 bond and $20,000 yearly, better off buying some mountain property. HAHA
Maybe ;) I had 2 acres and a nice log cabin with 250' on the West Branch Ausable in NY. A tad more expensive then the golf stuff.

Dam removal

Two West Branch of the Ausable River dams are in the process of being removed. The only one left will be the one in Wilmington, but that is being updated again to improve flows. https://www.ausableriver.org/blog/mystery-dam The big one outside of Ausable Forks; https://www.ausableriver.org/programs/...

There are a lot of feeders to Big Timber proper, Trout Run used to have a small population of Brookies, probably still does.

Re: WTS surprise tenant

Used to catch them as a kid from Newark Bay, they put up a good tussle,; an adventure unhooking them as they tend to ball up in a slimey mess. Gave them to some Italian neighbors that pickled them. I use the little ones for Striper bait in the fall

Re: In Search of Wild Trout Under the NJ Turnpike?

I recall reading a piece about Trout in the Meadowlands. Have searched but could not locate it. Also Big Timber Creek is known to have native Brookies, it is located near Cherry hill in Gloucester County.

Re: Long Beach Island With The Flyrod?

Head over to High Bar Harbor in Barnegat Light, park at the end of Sunset Blvd and walk out. Close to the channel on the inlet side, some nice flats on the bay side. Check a map and watch the tides.
