Re: nice stocker brown
Nice day to be out! I should have gone today to get some exercise and stretch my legs from a long week in the deer stand.

Welcome back! Guitar player here too... I have way too many guitars and amps, rods, guns... so says my wife. She doesn't understand that they are all "investments"

Re: wild trout streams
yeah, these ratings are quite generous. The "stream" in my back woods is shown as a FW2-TCP1. It is literally a drainage ditch.optowalt wrote: ↑Fri Oct 30, 2020 4:36 pmI found this on another site. Looks pretty cool.

on topic... have any of you folks ever tried circle hook flies? A quick google search showed a lot of SW patterns but only a few midge type nymphs. Just curious...

so angry at myself- wild brown
as I have mentioned, I live on the Lamington Rvr in Pottersville, and since being here, have lamented over the poor fishing I have found from the down to almost I-78. I have caught a few, but they were always obviously club fish, and this was after the restoration project of last year. Being it is a...

Re: Very large native brookies-video
I am puzzled by it as I have never seen a stream like that or brookies like that. Also the browns looked different that I am used to. Also was that a stocked rainbow or a wild one? The kid said that was his first time fly fishing-looks like he is hooked now after a 90 minutes of fishing like that! ...

My usual pumpkin seed twister tail lead head jig. But anything rubber usually kills. Wacky rigs, shad, etc..

Banner day on Big D
I floated the Delaware up in Milford area today, and may have had my best day ever, certainly from a quality/quantity standpoint. After a real slow start, I finished with 20, but 4 were in high 'teens, on top of my PB NJ-caught smallie, a 20", solid 4 lbr. That was some fight, floating downstream th...

Re: Lamington/NBRR Smallies - biggest seen?
I got out to Duke Island Park fished one evening earlier this week, and got 7 in about an hour, including one 16". Some really pretty fish, one had deep tiger stripes like you see one Midwestern and Canadian fish.

Re: Lamington/NBRR Smallies - biggest seen?
Unfortunately, the Lamington suffers mightily from man's interference, leaving it both a poor trout and smallie fishery. The Kay Dam that Morris County Parks owns is a large contributor to the problem, at least for trout. Further down the Black when it becomes the Lamington, it suffers from current...

I should get down to that area... I usually fish the Matamoras area down to the Water Gap.BiggerThomas wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 1:23 pmRazor, I've found some good smallie water in the Delaware below Carpentersville, NJ. Fish the runs and around the boulders.

Re: Lamington/NBRR Smallies - biggest seen?
I grew up in 2 miles from Pottersville and the water always looked alluring there, but it is transitional water so kind of poor to mediocre for both trout and SMB. Yeah it a a really weird stretch from the Fairmont Rd bridge in the village, downstream past my place, and all the way down to Lamingto...

Lamington/NBRR Smallies - biggest seen?
After numerous attempts of picking onesy-twosy's, I finally found a decent hole on the Lamington yesterday evening where I pulled 8 fish in less than 30 minutes. But as usual, they were all in that 7-10" range, and I am being generous at 10. I know the main stem of the Raritan has some good size sma...

Re: Water Temps
At least where I live, next week's temps look like they're inching back up into the 87-88 range during the day. But some of these cool mornings with low dew points (50s) have been delightful. I also looked at NJ's drought map which says the state is in a green "normal' range. Do normal water levels...

Big D Smallmouth on the fly suggestions?
Last Monday I floated a familiar stretch in the Matamoras and downstream area with my nephew, and as usual killed 'em on the spinning rod. But I didn't bother bringing a fly rod because I have just not been able to break to code for Delaware smallies. Suggestions?

Re: Warren Glen Musky
I have to say, I was a little uneasy walking below the "waterfall" of the little branch the splits off at the big dam and rejoins the main stem a couple hundred yards upstream from the mill foot bridge. I imagine not wanting to linger too long beneath the big dam itself... but I did not make it up t...
