Re: Stream Conditions Today

I fished Pt. Mnt. this morning - 5:15- 6. It was off, but fish were rising and chasing wooly buggers (black). I was down at the lower end. Usually I park closer to Penwell but the turn-off parking lot (the old homestead one) is blocked by a fallen tree from the other night. Does anyone (Rusty) know ...

Re: Claremont Bows

I fished the upper section, right below Budd Lake in the reserve. I did not see many good holes that brookies could hide in. Just when it starts to open it, there are Posted Signs. I turned back. Next, I drove down to where the "Wild Trout" section and caught fish right by that bridge. As I ventured...

Does that mean that the river above Long Valley is open everyday, all year?

Vintage photographs of Trout Streams and Early Dams

This may be especially interesting for Rusty S:

https://www.loc.gov/pictures/search/?q=Trout

The Library of Congress archived their dam projects on trout streams, including blueprints. Pretty interesting if you like trout, history, and/or photography.

Re: Shannon's One Fly

Yeah, I could not face the world with a dubious title. I like the Double Standard when I fish the SBR, so I’ll go with that. We will see. I am still not sure if I’ll be signing up.

Re: Shannon's One Fly

It sounds like flies have to be tied on site before the start. I have a travel bag for my tying stuff. I'll just bring it.

The next question is: do I use a mop'n'glo? Or a less effective, but socially acceptable, hare's ear?

Shannon's One Fly

I may give the One Fly competition a shot this weekend at the trout fest in Califon. Is anyone else in? Does anyone know the specific rules? Are we tying the fly we will use at the site before the event? Do we need to bring our vices, materials, and equipment? I looked at the FB page and did not see...

Re: Who Wears A Vest?

I finally retired my 20 year old LL Bean vest. That thing was awesome and carried everything plus 10 beers. I tried different packs but the always felt cumbersome, so I always went back to the musty, moldy, beer vest. This year I got a reddington and love it. I quit drinking so I don't have to worry...

I fish bellow the Highbridge dam when the flows are high. Easy to access and plenty of fish
I am looking around this area on Google Maps and see a place called "Mayfly Depository" which is a dumpling restaurant. Anyone ever been? Is it a fly fishing chef?

Re: South branch fishable flows?

Last month, when these crazy flows sent the rivers up and down, I fished the lower section of the KLG when it was around 400, but clear. I did pretty well considering, but lost many flies on the bottom. Wading was tough, but doable if you are careful. When it went back to normal, I got skunked every...

Rabbit fur

My cousin, for my birthday, got me some rabbit pelts: "craft grade rabbit pelts." While I appreciate the gift I am wondering if this fur can be used for dubbing or blending dub. It is so soft and silky, its more likely best used in strips for zonkers or streamers. I'll try to post pics, but they're ...

Re: Spruce Run

I've been out there, but not in a boat...yet. No luck. I can hear fish jumping but they dont want my plugs or zonkers. Anyone want to coordinate a night trip? I'll have to find some lights for the canoe.
