Re: Shad Season 2023

Shad anglers are starting to pick some fish up in the Lambertville area on the big D. Temps continue to warm with the warmer and longer days. It should be on like donkey kong in a week or so.

Re: McMichael Creek 3-22-23

I've never fished this river, but have plans to in April on some club waters where we're doing a big dam removal project. Looking forward to some new PA water that is just under an hour away from me.

Re: Wading-rain Jacket recommendations

I have never, NEVER, had a DWR that couldn't be rejuvenated. My 20 year old reddington jacket still works fine (its the zipper that failed). Proper washing and rejuvenating does the trick every time. Here is what I use: https://www.nikwax.com/en-us/products/Cleaning/tech-wash/ https://www.nikwax.co...

Re: Wading-rain Jacket recommendations

The best rain coat I owned for fishing was made my Columbia and it was a "shorty version" because you are wearing chest waders and there is no need for a jacket to reach all the way down to your waist or lower. Mine finally wore out and I wasn't able to find another, so I have same brand, but regula...

Re: Wading-rain Jacket recommendations

A true "rain jacket" will be rubberized to fend off any and all rain. That's not what you are talking about, you're talking about Gortex which will hold off some rain, but will eventually get soaked through. Two different animals. I use Simms Guide jacket if there is a brief, light rain, and I use a...

Re: Shad Season 2023

Hey Rusty, Question, How far up can the shad go on the Musky? I know when I was helping to stock back a few years ago there were a lot of dams. Bloomsbury dam was pretty tall if I remember. Bill the mailman They get to the base of the 35' tall Warren Glen Mill dam in the Musky Gorge about 2/3 mile ...

Re: Giving back to TU & the River

A treble AND a single hook? So much for easy C&R. wouldn't know. I use barbless hooks when I fish ;) . If I cant switch them. I just file the barb off :!: Use small surgical clamps to smash down your barbs in a half second. Doubles as a perfect hook removed if you get one deep or that doesn't...

Re: Shad Season 2023

They are picking up one here and there in the Big D down in Lambertville, but water temps remain low for now. I will be out in another week or so. I fish above the Gap. A great fish on a 7 weight!

The Lackawanna is probably the best Trophy trout river in the state just behind the West Branch. Not sure the laws as part of it is Trophy, and very little of it is stocked.
What Joe said. Giant browns that run you into submerged shopping carts and break you off.

Re: Fly box set up

How many boxes do you need to hold size 12 Adams? An altoids tin or equivalent is all one needs. haha I really only fish a few patterns, so I only take a few boxes with me on the river. I do have different boxes for different places I fish. For example I have a "Western" box for when we fish out we...

Re: Fly box set up

How does everyone organize their fly boxes? I was set up by the type of fly. Dry flies, Nymphs, streamers and I had a small box I called trout candy that has eggs and worms. The more I fish the more I have expanded. I now live in New Hampshire where caddis is a huge hatch, I have set up a box with ...

Re: Fished McMichael Creek 2-19-23

My firm is removing a dam on McMichael's upstream of where you're at there. Hopefully this summer. Private waters, but it will help the river below it as the current impoundment is a 4 plus acre heat sync now in summer. And the dam itself is a fish blockage for upstream passage. Looks like you had ...
