Re: "Free-riders"

Is it just me--or have I actually been seeing an increase in unlicensed fishermen (not a fisher-woman--yet) during this last year? Has anyone observed something similar? Seems to have been more people fishing through the pandemic--but more unlicensed folk as well. :?: I stopped dislaying mine years...

if you use a floatation vessel on private property on both sides of the river. You are not allowed to use a anchor that touches bottom. But you can use a drift sock is so desired ;)
Bring water balloons in case the owner is out and about on the stream banks as well.

Re: Winter Trout, Anyone?

Don't be discouraged though. they still eat sometimes in the cold, so have at it and good luck. Look out west. The Madison river is a bug factory, unlike what we have on the east coast. Guys catch fish on dries in well below freezing temperatures. Not like our NJ streams but the fish are fish and do...

Re: "State Open Waters"

The owner owns to the "deepest thalweg" in New Jersey. so stay shallow on the opposite side "not posted" of the bank and you are good. As the previous guy said...both sides posted... "you shall not pass"...

Re: nice stocker brown

I also find on brown trout, not always as nothing is always, that a red halo on the adipose fin can signal a wild fish as well. Lots of large dots close together is also a sign of a stocked fish.

Re: KLG question

The KLG is still getting stocked. It is all rainbows and some are big and feisty. Not as many fish as there used to be. I would fish midges and scuds. Eggs will work and woolly buggers always work. The fish are educated and wiley as they get pounded often. I'm not sure it was stocked this year due ...

Re: Spruce Run

Yes, I guess its been awhile. I remember fishing Spruce Run Creek by that since closed down restaurant on route 31 on March 7th of 2009 and caught two 16-18 inch wild browns on in the same pool on a trout magnet. I think I even posted a pic on the last iteration of this site. It was always a bit we...

Re: Anyone Been Fishing?

I went out before the rain. Fishing was slow, but I was part of the issue. Slow on strikes, and lazy with my tactics and tackle. Got one and missed several strikes for who knows why? There are fissh to be had, but I bet the rain moved them around....the search continues.

Re: Spruce Run

I stopped an looked today. Hopefully the current cleans out the pool a little. I also see a large tree stump deflecting water before the wall downstream, what happens when that rots away?

Re: Spruce Run

It looks like the retaining wall is finished, and from what I can see from the road, it has a funny curve to it and the pool is now shallow and filled with sediment. Someone who knows more about this stuff should drive down and take another look. They may have ruined one of the best fishing holes on...

Re: Bent hooks

Dont do it unless fishing for dinks. I tie a lot of flies on dry hooks for versatility. For example soft hackles and iris caddis, two of the flies I fish most of the time can be fished dry or wet, so I have a large amount of experience with bent hooks....the will bend again and eventually break and ...
