Re: da brookies and da browns
Thanks to those that reached out. That dam is 100% on a private landowner's property. It is partially breached and not likely on Dam Safety's radar, but I'm sure Shawn Crouse is happy it's there right now to keep browns from taking over for the brookies. As for Rheinhart Brook, the Division did send...

Re: da brookies and da browns
If someone wants to PM me a better address, I can let you know more about the dam. Chances are that is it not being monitored in any way by DEP Dam Safety. Looks to be low hazard.

Re: Little Black Stoneflies
Our LBS gradually get larger as they spend more time in the rivers, but they are the same species. They start out as a skinny 18 and grow over time up to a long 14. We have both black and brown LBS here. About the only times I see trout rise are when they lay eggs and skitter along the surface. We d...

Re: New Mexico
I'm not sure what public rivers there are near Taos, but Sante Fe is not trout country. Too arid all year as it is high plains dessert habitat. But up north, you have the Pecos which would be wadeable. September is a "shoulder season" meaning it can be warm like summer or cold like winter. Do yourse...

Re: Any Flint Hill Club members here?
That's a pretty exclusive club. Not a great chance anyone will step forward if they are in it. They recently enhanced their waters which means that the adjacent public land water was also restored and enhanced.

Re: Coorelation of temps and bite in winter
Being cold blooded, trout will obviously slow their metabolisms further when temps drop. In winter, the sun is your friend as it warms the water slightly. You can certainly catch plenty on a cloudy day, providing air temps aren't dropping at the time. But knowing that they are already not feeding mu...

Re: Who Uses a Net?
I checked "always", but the other day I forgot and my buddy Jim Holland netted my fish for me :D Ever since the ghost mesh nets became available, I have used them more frequently than I did the old nylon nets. Now the fish are fine while you remove the hook and take photos. Just keep their noses poi...

Re: R.I.P. Rick Ege (stonefly)
Yesterday I cleaned up the old Hardy reel Rick always joked about me having since I told him our different casting/rod preferences meant I never wanted to own one of his rods when he passed. Rick prefered a mid-flex rod and I like a faster tip flex rod. So I will fish his old Hardy Princess on my r...

Re: Trout Netting Replacement
Not trying to hijack or diminish your thread, just curious: how many people don't use a net at all? When my first one got worn out, I just never got a new one. Now I release all my fish in the water (as of late, at least; I hope no one can produce my infamous Gill Grab...). No net required for smal...

R.I.P. Rick Ege (stonefly)
I have been slow to post this as I deal with his passing myself, but I am saddened to inform you all that Rick (stonefly on this site) has passed away. He died early on New Year's Day and had been in the hospital a little over a week. He had been bedridden since July and his body was failing him. He...

Re: South Holston/Tuckasegee Rivers
The South Holston holds 5,000 to 7,000 trout per mile, so great fishing. It's a honey hole in winter when our rivers are frozen over largely. I have three buddies that guide there and they are always trying to get me down there. Thats a hell of a fish count!! 7000 fish per mile would also be 1.3 fi...

Re: nj brookies... ever again?
So they order take out for LasndLocked, so 3 lakes can benefit. Why not order Brown trout instead so the WHOLE STATE can benefit, oh yeah, that make too much sense. The reason NJ gets landlocked salmon from Massachusetts is because we used to supply them with brown trout eggs. Although we no longer...

Takes a long time to get Federal $$$ Not sure how solar panels stop bird poop, but whatever. Those are some CHOICE 15 inch Land Locked Salmon reared and stocked by the Division though ! Not sure what federal money you are referring to? The solar panels have nothing to do with federal funding. Also,...
