Re: Big Flatbrook 11/1

It must be temps that hurt wild trout production or other factors. Because the flatbrook has a robust bug population.

Re: Fly fishing etiquette rant

Big Horn river Montana, 5 of us were fishing a large seam and doing well. Two drift boats with guides and clients float down the seam and land, they decide to wade into the seam and start yelling at us about how it was their river and spot. One of our party proceeded to catch a BIG rainbow at their...

I totally agree it's a education thing not a regulation thing. . Anymore regulations on trout waters I fear some people's heads would explode .

Re: The KLG

I bet poor handling of fish and fishing during water temps over 70°f take just as big a toll on fish populations in the gorge than anything else . Walked through there July 3rd in the evening ,water was way to warm over 70°f . There's 5 guys fishing to risers . Sure we had a great water year but for...

Re: Fall Stocking

The interesting thing about this fall as compared to the last several years is that the flows are considerably higher . Not that your patterns will change I think all the ones named are fine , but the fact that they have more room to move about should make the next 5 months very interesting.

Re: Big Flat Brook

480cfs this morning , I cannot imagine that being bad in anyway and hadn't been under 200cfs for a week . I don't fish it very often but I'd imagine that's really rare for this time of year .

Re: Help with trip to the Catskills

Esopus should be plenty cold as it's kind of a tailwater ....and the tribs stay pretty cold to . That said if you plan on practicing catch and release , please check the temps .

Re: Low water/flow tactics

I saw a few guys in the gorge Friday evening , these will be the same guys saying " there are no fish in the gorge "in September before the fall stocking , after they stuck a bunch in 72°f water Friday night and killed whatever they hooked.

Re: Low water/flow tactics

Long leaders , light tippets , presenting small nymphs drag free this way is probably done best using a dry/dropper technique.

Re: Nymphing - going to the dark side

Yes a floating line and like lightenup said keep as much fly line off the water as you can . YouTube is probably the best teacher . ...
Flies ... To start a simple scud is easy to tie and always present in the muskie or south branch .

Re: Nymphing - going to the dark side

Lots of minutia to get into , and I'm sure others will chime in , everybody does it differently but I think when starting to get into nymphing confidence is key , don't worry about seeing the fly , just read the water get the nymphs down and keep the line tight . This is a great time of year to fish...
