Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness

Stick a barbed hook in your arm...the whole way..pull it out. Now take a barbless hook and stick it your arm. .then pull it out.. Tell me about your experience with that. You won't die, it will rip a bigger hole in your arm, you will bleed more and be in more pain... I'll fish barbless, not only fo...

Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness

This topic comes up from time to time and seeing a post in a recent thread brought it to mind again. Special regulations areas, be it Catch and Release or Wild Trout Stream tend to have this line of barbless hooks written into them. The same goes for other states as well. I always ask myself, why? D...

Re: Help

Great story and its always nice to see someone helping out their fellow fisherman. Hopefully he turns into someone who is life longer fisherman, conservationist and license buyer! I always try and do my share of helping out other when im at the lake or the stream.

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

When it reaches the end of it's rope, that’s all there is. Less likely to happen on regular FF gear, but could happen. What Tenkara rod do you have? Tenkara USA Iwana - 12 foot. I also have the smaller handle that allows you to use it as a 9'6'' rod. I actually use it in the smaller configuration f...

So, for Twism and Cappy, what was the issue when you lost a large fish on a Tenkara?
I was fishing high water in the KLG and the fish bolted downstream faster than I could follow or stop it.

I have also seen a very experienced fly fisherman use two strike indicators or different colors so he knew which direction his fly was in relation to the indicators.
Why not use three indicators so you can also capture movement along the Z axis....

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

Exactly. If you cant reach a spot where a traditional cast and drift would be necessary, you cant fish it with Tenkara . I havent busted mine out in a while, ever since I lost a really nice bow in the KLG I have went back to using a reel so I can let them run when needed. Well you can, but with var...

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

Tenkara, no indicator needed. Or, euro-nymphing, no indicator needed. Or, dry fly fishing, no indicator needed. How come no indicator needed with the Tenkara? It can be very much like euro-nymphing. No floating line laying on the water. Exactly. If you cant reach a spot where a traditional cast and...

Correct, the biostrike cant hold up weighted nymphs but remember, your indicator isnt meant to be a bobber...... If thats the way you use an indicator, then like my wife says "you're doing it wrong!"

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

I concur on the use of an indicator that doesn't put a kink in the line. A big fish can break off at the indicator. I have been using biostrike for a few years now and I like it. Sure it has flaws, but it is easily repositioned, easy to put on, and relatively inexpensive. Cool story time: On our fi...

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020

I think I have one or two of those indicators in my vest somewhere. Never a fan as you put a kink in your leader. When im not using my dedicated nymphing leader that I built with a section of orange backing, I use the little "football" style ones. They have a slit in the foam with little rubber hose...

Nice fish of all species! Once the summer hits I stick with pond LM bass fishing in PA. Plenty of time to fish for trout though! I have yet to catch a pike in NJ and need to change that!

I have pickerel do this to me pretty often, never a trout though! I wonder how long since he ate that other brown? Its still identifiable but probably wouldnt have been for much longer.
