Re: Best wading boots

Anyone who wears waders and boots 5 or more times a week can only really expect a couple of seasons in a pair of boots. Equipment does wear out, after all. The problem with forums like this is that 10 guys will give you 10 different answers based on their own experiences. One or two may fish but a c...

Re: brookies

Such a beautiful fish! Headed down to VA next week to restore some of their habitat.....hoping to put my VA non-resident fishing license into action a few evenings. awesome, what does some of the restoration work involve? some dam/pond removals built up in the mountains? This time it's an 8th gener...

Re: Net Rig

I keep it ultra simple: I don't use a net. Translation to English: "I never catch big fish, so I don't need a net". I don't know if this will vindicate me or land me in even more trouble! What??? Nobody caught the world famous Gill Grab????? :o

Net 1.jpg Net 2.jpg Upper photo shows a proper magnetic release setup when fully attached. The second photo shows what it all looks like when the net is deployed. You will see that it is still very much attached to my chest pack. I change out the bungee strap every few years depending on use, but t...

Re: Net Rig

I only starting using a net like 3 years ago and used a magnetic release. I liked it but had to be careful walking through thick brush cause sometimes it would snag on something and come off but I'd usually always notice it. Well, I lost my net a few trips ago fishing a WTS so I had to order a new ...

Re: "Zingers"

I've already been through some crappy, W-mart brand zingers that came apart after a short working-life. Any recommendations for more durable brands? :?: There is no such thing, so keep diligent by checking them for wear often. Replace as needed. I have lost gear due to failed zingers too many times...

Re: Net Rig

I have always hung mine from a loop in the middle of my back (vest or now chest pack) attached to a magnetic release. No zinger, the net is attached to a stretchy cord. Can't say I've ever had an issue. But they make some wading belts these days that secure your net on your non-casting side that you...

Re: Ken Lockwood

TU has been pushing the Division to close the road year round for many, many years now. This is a great thing, not a good thing. NJ anglers are WAY TOO LAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get off your fat A$$ES and do some walking. Suck it up, buttercup. And don't give me "I'm old and handicapped and need to ...

Re: Ken Lockwood

Best thing that could have ever happened to the fishing there. Agreed, esp. during a pandemic when people from 200 miles away are always looking for somewhere to go. Aaah the gorge, that magical spot with enormous drawing power, God bless it. Love it, keeps the masses occupied and off other waterwa...

Re: Hendrickson's?

I fished the Delaware yesterday for shad Sounds like the surgery went well! How did you do with the Shad? Wade or boat? Surgery went well, she got all the floaters out and shaved the torn meniscus. The pain is getting better each day and I can walk normally on it without a cane or crutches. Thanks....

Re: Shad season

I fished from a buddy's boat in the Delaware yesterday and went 11 for 17 on shad. Not a hot bite, but most got skunked, so I was happy. A few roe, but mostly bucks.

Re: Hendrickson's?

Due to knee surgery recently, I haven't been trout fishing yet. But the shop (Shannon's) tells me the Hendricksons so far have been spotty. Good today, gone tomorrow, then back later in the week. But seems the caddis are busting wide open and some March browns are in the mix as well. I fished the De...

Re: It was WORK & was worth it

MikeB, that fly is a zug bug. But don't assume it is a special fly as we are fishing for fresh stocked rainbows, the easiest of all trout to catch. Stocked bows eat nearly anything right now. In time, they will learn to eat aquatic insects. For now, the flash in the peacock herl on a zug bug is all ...

Re: I'm officially a chest guy

The single best thing to happen to me in the last 49 I've been fly fishing was to lose my vest and go chest pack. It's - for me at least - a quantum leap forward over the vest and I will never even remotely consider going back. I can think of no downsides and only upsides to making the switch. Your ...

Re: Washing Out Wader Stink

...So much for wasting money on products to clean those stinking waders... Thanks for the responses--even if they are tongue-in-cheek ones. Just wash them like you would any of your other clothes. Most anglers have no idea that they are SUPPOSED to wash their breathable waders because it keeps the ...

Re: Pequannock newark watershed stretch

Grew up fishing all of that water, but did so most likely while trespassing on my bicycle back in the day. Nobody ever bothered us. But in those days, anglers just pulled over on the southbound shoulder to park and fish. Now, that will get you a ticket from the WM or Kinnelon cops.

Re: Questions about Wild Brookie Streams (Dunnfield, Trout Brook, etc.)

NJ has more than 2,000 streams that hold native brook trout, so finding them is not an issue. As martalus mentioned, the brookies tend to be small and live in smaller streams for the most part. Walking along one of these streams standing roughly 6 foot tall, you are going to pretty much spook every ...
