Re: Winter nymphing advice
I like to fish a 2 fly setup this time of year. My bottom fly would be some standard bead head nymph like a pheasant tail or hare's ear and then I would tie on a midge (something like a black zebra midge) off the tag end of the tippet.

Re: The Green Brook 12/5/18:
Awesome job as always. I really need to get out and help out with the next clean up!
Looking at those before photos makes me wonder how many pair of waders get torn up with all those sticks/branches and garbage?

Re: Wild NJ Trout
Forgot to ask, what was the magic fly? A tungsten beadhead hare's ear nymph tied on a barbless size 16 jig hook. I really like the jig hooks for the small streams, rarely get hung on on bottom. what hook do you use? something like the Umpqua U-Series U555 Jig Hooks? BTW, sort of unrelated, I'm in t...

Re: Raritan/Passaic headwater Brown trout
Nice work! Did you run into many wild bows in the Passaic headwaters? I last fished that area in 2014 and I only caught wild bows. Nah I was fishing some other passaic watershed tributary, not far from the stream you mentioned. But I know which wts you're talking about; I think njcatchandrelease di...

Wild NJ Trout
Went out Sunday in search of some wild trout and was rewarded with a few great looking rainbows, no brookies or browns. Water temp was 40 and flow was perfect. Find the deep pocket water and you would find fish. https://i.imgur.com/AA1ZMMVl.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/StW2LuWl.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.co...

Not the Musky, but a good guess.Rusty Spinner wrote: ↑Tue Nov 13, 2018 8:37 am
Agreed. I'm going to guess this is the Musky between Asbury and Bloomsbury.

Cold Temp Fishing
Hit the river on Sunday morning, air temp was 29 and the water temp was 40. I managed to pick up 2 nice browns and a rainbow while fishing streamers.

I haven't fished there but it is on my list. A neighbor of mine says he fishes it in the winter and gets trout in the plunge pools beneath the waterfalls.

Fall Colors
I got out the other morning on what is turning out to be my favorite fall trout river determined to land a nice trout on a streamer. After about 5 casts I was rewarded with this nice brown that slammed a size 10 Beadhead Thin Mint streamer that I was fishing dead drift and let it swing across the cu...

Re: Fall Trout
The brown took a black woolly bugger fly fished on a dead drift, the bows hot either a Rapala count down lure in rainbow trout color or a TroutA-Control Ranger lure.

Fall Trout
I was lucky enough to have Thursday & Friday off from work so I hit the river to search for some of the fall stocked trout. I found great weather, great water flows river temps hovering around 50 degrees and very few other fishermen. Managed to land a total of 9 trout (8 rainbows from 13" to 16" and...

Re: WTS surprise tenant
Eel is one of my favorite fish to eat. Cut into 4" sections, split down the length of the belly, add a little kosher salt and grill it slow until the skin gets crispy and the flesh tender. Skin is the best part, but it MUST be crispy all the way through. Serve with a classic Italian tomato salad an...
