Most NJ streams do not need a sink tip. The leader and tippet is usually long enough to reach the bottom without a sink tip. Plus a sink tip would mask any hits.
Now, in deep waters, a sink tip can be helpful to get that fly to the right depth.
Oh, and fishing sink tips is like cheating

Remember your 2019 fishing license. I saw three anglers at the gorge and each was displaying their 2018 license. I have no doubt they will soon get and display the current license. The water was high, moving fast and off color. I doubt they caught anything.

So it appears they haven't done any more work on the dam since early Oct. Columbia 1.JPG Columbia 3.JPG I would suspect permits are dictating what and when they are allowed to do things. Do something out of the timeframe the permits allows and they would get a warning from the State of NJ, DEP. It ...

Re: Fly fishing etiquette rant
As a follow up and perhaps a change of the discussion, this is why my wife and I have taken to fishing smaller waters, and taking longer hikes to the water. We also like to fish less popular water. We fished Granite creek one year (outside of Jackson) and caught our fill of large cutts. We saw one ...

Re: Idiot Governor Ignores Science, Bans Bear Hunting on State Land
Politicians ignoring science is not just limited to our current governor, nor is it isolated to bear hunting. There is a whole climate of topics that politicians are ignoring science while making policies and laws. And it is not just ignoring the science, some politicians embrace the ignorance and d...

I bet poor handling of fish and fishing during water temps over 70°f take just as big a toll on fish populations in the gorge than anything else . Walked through there July 3rd in the evening ,water was way to warm over 70°f . There's 5 guys fishing to risers . Sure we had a great water year but fo...

So I thought of this thread when I was out in the Big Flat Brook today and swear I saw a black colored eel slither away as I stepped upstream. Seems pretty far to go up the Delaware and then into the Flat Brook but I guess its possible? I was in the middle of the Flatbrook WMA and a little freaked ...

Re: anyone getting out?
I'm not sure which stream you are referencing but on the small wild trout streams I have been fishing I have noticed a lot of blue herons, more than in the past. Those guys must be affecting the trout populations. Too many angler “tweeting” favorite fishing locations! Don’t they know herons search ...

Mark - maybe you can place a flag next to each tire so they are easy to find and they can make sure they are all collected. Joining the team is also OK.

Re: Idiot Governor Ignores Science, Bans Bear Hunting on State Land
If enough people asked the supermarkets to start stocking bear meat, then there wouldn't be any need to have a bear hunt, people can just get their bear meat at the store where they make all kinds of meat in their factories.

I agree with this...I also think that both sides of the aisle refuse to understand things that that they fear, not only the left, but the right as well....I stand firmly with the middle and science!!!!! :D I agree, ignoring science is not just a one political side story. Science is the best knowled...
