Re: smallie season
Will be jumping over to the "bronze trout" as well now that summer is setting in. Hopefully this weekend will be good to go on the Big D. I have to explore some ww spots local to me as well and the Raritan since I cross it 2x a week on the way home from work. [/quote] Do you catch many smallies in ...

Re: Rain
We got 4/10" of rain yesterday here in the headwaters and the SBR is running above median flows as it has basically all year so far. It is 79 cfs today when median flows are only about 62 cfs. Similarly, the Musky is flowing at 165 cfs when normal for today is about 138 cfs. The Flatbrook is the sa...

Re: Well the time has come
Been using a Folstaff since I was in my late teens. Bad hips = bad balance, needed a staff to keep me upright especially in the days of boot foot waders without felt soles. These days I use it everywhere even small creeks. About 5 years ago I took a spill on a little brook and broke a fly box and a ...

Re: recommendation on a GREAT pair of wading boots
I actually like Cabela's lightweight studded felts. I have a pair of Korkers with the spiked studs, loved the soles and the grip but I had to glue them in place as they kept coming apart at bad times. Plus I just can't get over the boa lace system, great in theory, eliminating snagging laces and tyi...

Re: Good temps low water
Good to hear. I was out of town last week and was wondering how conditions were. Fished it on the 16th and the ISO's were popping then too. Not much happening on the surface but they were hammering wets on the swing. Didn't raise any browns though, just run of the mill stockies. Hopefully we'll get ...

"clear any unnecessary items out of the trunk that might be weighing your car down." I've lost already! I do a lot of the hypermiling things now, like coast into a red light or downhill. Theoretically this works great, except in practicality when you're running up 202 and the a-hole behind you wants...

Re: Isonychia
Iso's mixed with sulphurs Monday night on the Pequannock as well. The birds were working them heavily, the fish not so much. I was able to conjure up a few on a big GRHE wet and another few on a sulphur wet. 64 degree temp at 6:30. Next couple of days should be a no-go, maybe the weekend with the ra...

Re: Gas prices $$$$$$$
I am not personally looking to change vehicles either-I got a 2017 Honda CRV with low mileage in 2019-I get decent fuel economy-31-35 mpg on the highway so it is not terrible-when I fill up, I usually can drive over 400 miles. Its a great car for fishing/skiing as I get a combination of decent fuel...

Re: Why No Temperature Closures?
Ok, we've all been out and about enough in our glorious state to know damn well that most people in NJ wouldn't know WTF to make of temperature closures. And those that do would likely not follow them any way cause they "paid for their" stocked trout and damn well want to fish for them, weather be d...

Re: Hatches
Lots of bugs popping the last 2 nights. Sulphurs, March Browns, and caddis hatching. Stupid stockies hardly working the surface but the wet fly fishing has been spectacular (more than a few savage break offs too, need to reload the fly box). Lots of cookie cutter bows to the net, a few little small...

They're stockies, they'll just make more anyways. So long as they're taken legally, who cares if people take them home to fillet, eat, and use the remains to fertilize their gardens. Plus as Joe P. said most of them would boil in the summer anyway. Glad people make good use of them. I might even hav...

Deep Thoughts.....and ME!!!!
Might be the 1st time those 2 have ever been remotely associated. I'm obviously doing something wrong now, I'll have to fix that ASAP.

Re: Took a walk
Off the beaten path? Hence title of took a walk? Bow looks like a fall holdover. The path is beaten well, people are just lazy, was all by myself on a beautiful day in a very popular stretch of river....Walked past all of the over fished and full spots on my way. I am happy people are lazy for once...
