Re: KLG 10/11/2021

Nice pictures, nice report! I guess those smaller wild fish find ways to survive the summer heat-they must find the springs and little spring fed tribs while the larger stocked fish are not able to go. I've heard from a number of anglers that since we had that flash flood a few weeks back, that KLG...

KLG 10/11/2021

I had the day off, so after some chores, I headed to the KLG. I spoke to five anglers on my walk down the road, all of whom reported the big smelly black and white. I entered the stream undeterred, as I do everything else in life, but soon understood their plights! First I tried nymphing a fall favo...

From https://www.njfishandwildlife.com/flstk21.htm: A total of approximately 21,000 two-year old Rainbow Trout, averaging 14-16 inches will be stocked in 17 streams and 19 ponds and lakes. All trout are raised at the Pequest Trout Hatchery and will be stocked from Tuesday, October 12 to Wednesday, O...

Re: Streams have been completely changed..

I have to agree! Went to the upper section of KLG for the first time in about 3 years and was I shocked. The "roadway" of course is closed, which is great as far as I am concerned but did not realize the damage that the flood must have done to it. The river itself seems to be in good shape BUT the ...

Re: Merrill Creek Res and a Fly Rod

Well done!!! Gr8 report and follow up on the new yak!! Just remember, a six weight and some streamers and you'll be into both bass species, three trout species, LL salmon and pickerals!!! Git er done and keep us posted Thanks for those tips. I'd also anticipate buying a small trolling motor so that...

Merrill Creek Res and a Fly Rod

I had the day off today, so after some errands at home, I packed my inflatable kayak into my trunk along with a 3-wt 7 ft fly rod. There was only one other guy on the reservoir, also in a kayak, but otherwise we had the place to ourselves. I combed the banks and saw tons of spotted lantern flies on ...

Re: Streams have been completely changed..

As strange as it might sound, NJ Angler has provided a bedrock of normalcy, predictability, and structure for me over the years: no matter what the cosmos throws at us--earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods--Mark is there, catching wild browns, no matter what.

This report is from 2004. Not sure how relevant it still is, but the then-current data would warrant a trip imo: https://www.state.nj.us/dep/wms/bfbm/do ... i085-1.pdf

Re: Rain doing any good?

if my basement sump pump is any indication, I'd say the water table got a bit of a boost the past 24 hours. So I guess this is the part of the storm where we all start boasting (or confessing) how many inches we got. Here's a great map if you're interested: https://www.iweathernet.com/total-r...

Merrill Creek Reservoir and an Inflatable 'Yak

I picked up this inflatable kayak for $180 (last winter) https://www.amazon.com/Intex-Explorer-K2-Kayak-Yellow/dp/B00AIQ8LGG/ref=asc_df_B00AIQ8LGG/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=532261498782&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=14613655406460235682&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9...

Re: Montana or Northern New Mexico?

The big horn was the mecca of the 80's and 90's , had some problems and is quickly getting back to its former glory!! Not sure about the surrounding small waters , but if ya move there , you can tell us all about it!! good luck Thanks. One guide I spoke with wrote "There is a lifetime of small stre...

Re: Montana or Northern New Mexico?

After some research and talking to fly guides across the country, I am throwing Sheridan, WY into the mix. Decent small town (17,000 people) and it checks all the major boxes of where I'd like to live next. Anyone ever fished the Big Horn or the Big Horn Mountains (tons of small streams)?

Variety Village on the Musconetcong--7/31/2021

I'm posting this in the NJ Trout Fishing forum because, well, it's been slow, plus I had intended to catch trout in NJ when I went to the Musky today; however, it didn't really turn out that way  I had no luck nymphing (scud + hare's ear combo) so I switched to a dry fly (R. Wulff). I spent the...
