Re: Report: Clairmont Stretch 13 June 2020. No Trespassing???
Looks like a Land Use Regulation violation of dumping boulders along the bank without a permit................just saying. No fill in the floodplain without a Freshwater Wetlands permit from DEP. I have a bias here, this is one of our favorite spots. That said, would calling the DEP escalate the si...

Re: Report: Clairmont Stretch 13 June 2020. No Trespassing???
That rope swing has been there forever and was just recently taken down. There is a small stretch on the side of the river that the rope swing was on of private land that starts below where electric brook flows in but the other side is public. Not only did they take the swing down but they cut the ...

Report: Clairmont Stretch 13 June 2020. No Trespassing???
Greetings. We hit the water around 08:30 right at the lower bridge, just above the pool where there was (notice I said was) a rope swing. We brought 4 nice browns about 8-10 inches to hand with a copper John size 16. The water became pretty shallow about halfway to the bridge before the big pool, an...

Re: fishing nets
I finally bought a net when I caught a very large rainbow on the S. Branch. If I had a net I would have landed it, instead it flipped out of my hands multiple times as I tried to remove the hook. I also like the nets from Brodin. I have the Firehole model and my wife carries the Gallatin. If the fi...

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness
For those looking for scholarly articles about mortality with barbed v barbless, don't waste your time. There is nothing conclusive whatsoever, a fact mentioned by Division biologists when they adopted the barbless rules based on angler preferences. Gee thanks Rusty, I could have used that informat...

Re: Barbless Regulations and Their Pointlessness
Hey Twism, and everyone else. New to the thread and I finished the publications linked. There are some problems with the data, the first is that the publications are 20 years old or older. I haven't had the time, yet, to look for more recent analysis. I also haven't had the time to look at other publ...

Re: Nymphin' The Black, 5/13/2020
I concur on the use of an indicator that doesn't put a kink in the line. A big fish can break off at the indicator. I have been using biostrike for a few years now and I like it. Sure it has flaws, but it is easily repositioned, easy to put on, and relatively inexpensive. Cool story time: On our fir...

Njpatbee, sucks to hear about your spouse. Rusty, thanks for your perspective. Something I think about is "I don't want to be the one who gave covid-19 to my mother" You could substitute pretty much anyone you care about for mother.

New Mexico
Greetings, we are planning a trip to New Mexico this year in September. We are renting a small class B RV, and will be staying in state and federal campgrounds. We will be staying mostly in the Santa Fe/Taos area. Do you have any info and advice that you would like to give. Have at it! Note: I have ...

Thanks Rusty. I cannot stress enough how important it is to report this stuff. Please insert a string of insults and curses to the person(s) who did this and another string of curses hoping that they pay for it.

Quick follow up. Our travels with of fly fishing gear in checked luggage was uneventful. Nothing was stolen. So that's nice.

Re: Wader recomendations
Hey Robtf, Alcohol applied over the inside. Pinholes will show up as a darkened, or wet looking spot. Apply a slight smear of aquel or aquaseal or whatever wader repair stuff you use to the spot on the inside(no need to wait for the alcohol to dry). Let it dry and cure, and voila! Our friends who fi...

Re: Wader recomendations
Rusty is right. Pinhole leaks are easy to repair. He is also right that if you pay up and get more layers they will last longer. That has been my experience.

Hey Garden Hackle. Thanx for ruining my day :D . From the United website:United is not liable for damage to fishing equipment. Our stuff is pretty well protected, and this statement also applies if it is damaged in the overhead compartment. Like with everything else there are risks that need to be e...

Re: Traveling with Fly Fishing Gear
Late to the party, as usual. My experience is different. I have had TSA make me check carried on rods. I have had this happen in Newark, and overseas (Ireland). After it the second time it happened, we purchased fishing travel luggage. TSA lists rod holders as approved for carry on. I would print t...

Re: Summer Time Fishing
My wife and I fish the local pond, Garvey's pond, for sunnies. Much fun with a fly rod. They will take anything, so it is a good way to use poorly tied flies that I won't use for trout. It is a 15 minute walk, or a 3 minute drive from the house.

Re: Report: Clairmont Stretch 25 May, 2019
Brookies?! I haven't caught a brookie in that stretch in 3 years at least. Good to hear. Does anyone know if the big tree that used to extend almost all the way across the bridge pool, got cleared away naturally, or did it have help? No Idea about the tree, by the looks of things it was swept away,...
