Re: rod wear ?

Hi, My bamboo is 55 years old and I still use. My wife bought it for me for my Xmas present as husband and wife. She bought it at Ramsey Outdoor store for $91.00 in 1967. It is a Orvis Madison 71/2 foot. I fish it on the Beaverkill when I am up there in May or June. This is the only rod I keep in th...

Re: ice fishing fatalities

Troutman, Ice fishing is a lot of fun when you have family or friends. Some of the ice fisher men would bring grills out onto the ice and have big picnics besides ice fishing. On Shohola Falls Lake there is a eagles nest and most of the ice fishing crowd would throw a perch or two on to the ice abou...

Rusty, it’s three years already. I helped stock the Musky with Rick and others. Never forget the time sitting on his tail gate going up a field when he stepped on the gas and I fell off onto the tall grass. I spent most of my time with Harry in his truck till we found another place to stock. I hope ...

Hi, Went to lunch with my wife yesterday on LBI. If there is a recession I did not see it as the restaurant was packed. The traffic going to the Island was bumper to bumper. Even with gas prices above $4.00. The people were still going to the Island. I guess the people just want to look at the Ocean...

Hi, If you want smallness fish from Milford up up to Port Jervis. Put In at Milford beach ( now owned by the Fed. Gov.) and go up stream above where the Sawkill comes in you will probably need a 10 horse motor to get above the rapids that are above Milford beach. Start at Pa. side and go across rapi...

All you have to do is spit on the LBI Blvd. and it floods. My daughter has a house in Surf City. Will probably go to Wally’s for lunch today or tomorrow.

Rain

Just to let everyone know that Manahawkin,NJ got pounded by rain at about 3:30 until 4:15 PM. I looked at Ramapo River and they seemed to get nothing. Like wise BFB and the South Branch. We need some rain dancers on this site to get some rain onto the streams. We do not need rain down here but could...

Hey Rusty, I am 85 years old and I am a young old fart. Isn’t life great. Sitting on my porch and laughing at all of the reports about falling in with out a wading staff. I cannot tell you how many times I have fallen in without my wading staff, but it was a lot. Everybody keep up the good writing b...

Hi, I have been using a rake handle for years and years. Took old rake cut it down put a drill bit in bottom drilled hole in top part and put a rope through it and tie it to my vest. I used it in Montana ,NY,Pa. and in Jersey. It may look ugly but it gets the job done. Put on three coats of poly. If...

Re: Fixing Flies

Hi, I put the flies that are damaged in a separate box then in the winter strip the flies to save the hooks for when I start tying again. Why waste a good hook by throwing it away. In the winter I May strip 10 or 20 flies just to save the hook. I make sure the points are not broken off then I sharpe...

Hello Troutman, I was fishing down by Glen Gray Bridge. Up stream from the bridge. I started fishing that area back in 1954 when there were no houses and no condos around. I think the condo association made the west side of the bridge private so no parking or walking on the area. It’s a shame becaus...

Ramapo

Hello, Fished the Ramapo last evening. Started about 6:30. and fished until 8:00. The flies started hatching about 7:00 in the fast water with a lot of riffles. The water was about 7 or 8 inches deep. The trout in the deeper water had a feast as the flies drifted down. At first thought they were sul...

Hey Troutman, I was born and raised in Ridgewood. I started fishing the Ramapo back in 54 when I got my drivers license. I still fish it when we watch my daughters dogs. She lives in Saddle River right on the Allendale border. I will be up there today for a week. Watching the dogs and I just might b...
