Re: POLY LEADERS

WHEN TO USE A SINKING POLYLEADER VS. A SINK-TIP Although polyleaders come in sinking densities, as noted they don’t have as much mass as a level “T” sink-tip (for example: T-10). Consequently, they work great for small to medium size flies that are un-weighted or lightly weighted. That being said, ...

POLY LEADERS

Anyone out there use Poly Leaders instead of sink tip fly line to get down deep? I've been hearing a lot of talk about them lately and was wondering if they are a better solution then purchasing a sink tip fly line and another spool for my Ross reel. Just wondering what the Pros & Cons would be. I'm...

They all look fat and healthy which is always a great sign in winter.
All the trout I catch in that stream especially the rainbows are all on the chunky side for their size.

Here is another from a previous trip.

Re: Wild Trout

Caught them on a size 20 midge, eh? Beautiful fish, but I think you're a bit shy of the 20/20 club  I usually don't use smaller than a size 16--just can't see the hook eye, and the magnifying glasses don't help me much. I know the feeling, I have to bring a pair of magnifying glasses with me o...

Wild Trout

I figured with the rain we got last week the local rivers would be running high and stained so on Saturday I decided to hit a small wild trout stream instead. I was rewarded with a few rainbows and brookies. All of them we caught on a size 20 Zebra midge and we released. Here are a few photos from t...

Re: Next on your purchase list

Mines a toss up between a new 2wt rod & reel for fishing small streams or a really good pair of wading boots. I am really getting tired of having to replace lost studs in my current Cabelas boots!

Re: 1st Trip of 2019

The hare's ear rules! Hare's ear and a pheasant tail nymph are all you need. I'm typically a PT guy myself when I have to dredge the depths. But it always fascinates me how some days a pheasant tail won't work well, but tie on a fuzzy hare's ear and you can't keep them off your line. They really do...

Beautiful colors on those bows. That fly combo is deadly this time of year!
I was expecting to hook up on the midge but no takers. All hook ups were on the hare's ear nymph.

1st Trip of 2019

So I decided to hit the river today in search of some trout instead of going ice fishing and I am glad I did. I figured I would need to be fishing midges so I setup with a size 18 midge as my top fly and a size 16 bead head hares ear nymph tied on a jig hook as my bottom fly. I landed 4 nice rainbow...

Re: Guides icing up

Get a stick of Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm and use that on the guides. Works great and doesn't hurt the fly line. Does vaseline hurt the line? I could see Burts working as well, any waterproof product..chap stick, carmex? :D I haven't heard anything about Vaselne hurting the lines, but I did read ...

Re: South Branch Advise

Im fortunate to find alot of these remotes spots as I traveled down from Clinton SBR all the way down to Dukes Island main stem on kayak and fished all of them. Marked alot of them gps to return on foot to fish them again :D That is exactly what I was thinking of doing this year. How was the trip v...

Re: Day On The River With My Son

Great shots. The best ones are with family imo. I am looking forward to taking my sons this spring. They are 8 and 10. When I started taking my son at a young age (now 21), I made sure to make the day not just about fishing but about exploring the river area. Basically give them time to be kids!

Day On The River With My Son

Since my son was home from college for the holidays and we had a free day we hit the river for a few hours. Air temp was 36 and the water temp was 38. The river was running high but clear. We managed to land 8 nice rainbows and 1 brown in a few hours of fishing. Even though the water temp was cold t...

Re: Wild browns - 12/15/18

Great looking browns.

Some of the WTS I fish have the same issue with trees being down. I think it gives great protection for the trout, but I'm concerned with the increasing bank erosion.

Re: Winter nymphing advice

All good advice given. Any recos on winter dries to use? I've had luck with small (#18-#24) midges and BWOs. And I make it a lunch-time outing between 11-3 so I can hit the warmest part of the day.... Plus it never hurts if a crumb or two from my sandwich lands in a feeding lane :D "Chumming For Tr...
